Considering that a lot of the surviving 1883 No "CENTS" nickels are semi-prooflike, then they probably are die scratches (or "polish marks")....

The score on the halves make up for the skunks on the nickels and quarters. ;) Sounds like a good year, IMO. I searched $5000.00 of halves not...

Looks like a ding, IMHO. Probably occurred when the coin was dropped into the tote bag at an angle, hitting the edge of another coin.
Was probably cleaned long ago, but with a patina that thick, I think it'd grade cleanly. :thumb:

Plated with some non-magnetic metal or metal alloy, IMHO. It looks like every other plated coin I've ever seen.
