what you said makes sense but it's hard to say for about this one just from the photos. the obverse does look unusal.
Ruben your coin is only worth face value . you should have started a new thead for it so it would be so confusing. the coin shows common die wear...
there are folks selling coins on ebay that don't have a clue as to what a mint error coin is and will swear they know everything.

this looks like it may be a laminated panchet or struck thru coin but a photo of the obverse side would be helpful
rick you can rest assured that the coin you have here is worth only 5 cents. please wipe them boogers off before spending it.
the letters and numbers are the first to wear out on the dies. the coin you have here is a normal quarter struck with a worn out die .
