Appears to be die deterioration. MD and DDD is really common on Kennedy half dollars.
Looks like MD to me. Flat and shelflike on the reverse. There are a few DDOs for this date and mint mark, but would need a full picture to tell....

I can buy “unsearched bags” from my local coin dealer. He is an honest man and he will tell you he hasn’t searched them. That’s not to say no one has.
