Yeah. Definitely whizzed or wire brushed hard. Still... it's a piece of history!

That's his jeans under the coin...
Love the tough guy talk. Good way to end up in jail charged with manslaughter. You got a wife that'll miss you? Kids? A mother? No thank you....
It appears to have lost it's original luster/surfaces. It looks sort of "worked over." I would send it to PCGS or NGC to find out for sure,...
David Poliquin responded to my message. He says it is not a die variety, just die clashing, meaning it cannot be attributed as discussed earlier....

I messaged David Poliquin with the pics to see what he says.

It has been lightly cleaned. Nice AU55 otherwise. If it goes to PCGS it will say AU Details Cleaning. It doesn't appear to match the MPD variety...
My pics. @Paddy54 , do you still think it's the MPD variety? I can't see it. [ATTACH] [ATTACH] [ATTACH] [ATTACH]
Long ago I was selling something and ended it as soon as I got a bid. Because I needed the money QUICK.
Looks authentic. Genuine 1858 small letters flying eagle, but cleaned to an unnatural color.
If you can't tell that the coin is fake, you need to do some learnin'.
