There are certainly glues out there with very low out-gassing. We use some at work for gluing IR filters directly onto lenses. Not sure how well...
Better but a couple different angles and crop the image if you can to just show the coin. It will help bring the coin forward and show the surfaces.

How did you start collecting? Generally it is in one area. Then what happens? You branch out and find other areas you enjoy, maybe more than...
Because you can see a ghost of an image I believe it is more likely it faded after it was printed. Still a nice note.
