I recently made my second purchase from Mike, a nicely toned 1901 Barber half in an ANACS soap bar slab graded MS-62:


This purchase has an interesting story behind it. I had been eyeing it for some time on https://www.toughcoins.com for my type set, but hadn't gotten around to pulling the trigger. One day, it popped up as "sold," so I mentally just wrote this coin off as one that got away.

Quite some time after that (I don't recall exactly how long, maybe a year or even 2), I see it popped back up on the site. I asked Mike if this was the same coin I had seen, and he told me it was. He had sold it to someone who asked him if he thought the coin would sticker at CAC, to which he said he believed it would. Unfortunately, neither the buyer nor Mike at the time considered that ANACS slabs were not eligible for CAC. So, of course, Mike bought it back for the original sale price, which just shows you how well he stands behind his product and his word.

After I became the proud owner of the coin, I posted a GTG, where the consensus was that it was significantly undergraded (guesses centered around MS63-64; I think this coin is an easy 63). If ANACS slabs were eligible for CAC, I have no doubt this one would sticker.

The price was $800, which, looking at recent sales for this date, would be a solid MS-63 price. Warren Buffett has said "It's far better to buy a wonderful company at a fair price than a fair company at a wonderful price." In the context of coins, I agree with this 100%: it is far better to buy a great coin at a fair price than a fair coin at a great price. Mike doesn't sell "fair" coins, but he does sell great coins at fair prices. That's why I'm sure my second purchase from Mike is not going to be my last. In fact, there are a few coins on the site right now that are on my radar already....

Nice one Larry....pretty.....and as for Mike we have had several business and horse trading since we first met here and at a Baltimore show a few years back.
It' has always been a smooth tranaction with both seller and buyer were happy dealing with one another.
Besides Mike would go hungry at the Baltimore Whitman show if I didnt point him to the right feed bucket...... lol
Mike is good person.....and deserves some credit for his time spent here, while running his business....thanks to all the mods for time served....lol
