All I can tell you is to read the threads that others have posted. Apparently Peter has been unable to fix the problem.

      Mornin' again,

Secondly - I was not frequenting CT for a while - and when I came back, the entire site is somewhat different. New hosting software I suppose.

Anyway, whenever there is a photo in a post or thread, my page is like 30 yards wide and the scrolling is crazy to get to the right side. I have gone back and read a few pertinent threads concerning this. Obviously, nothing has been done to fix it.

Anything that I can do on my end ? - I use IE 7 and have never had this problem on ANY forum till now. I have tried changing a setting ( in Explorer ) to not display pics and changed to "printable view" here on the forum - then no pics at all !! And no - I am not changing browsers...

Darn - the forum is real hard to work with now. I wonder if viewership and visitor numbers have been compromised, hurt or fallen off.

      Thanks again for the help,

      Mike

      Good Morning Doug,

      Long time...

Just a couple of things: been researching VAM varieties and went to the "resources" page here at CT and the "VAMSLAB" addy is new. Here is the new address - seems he changed hosts:

      http://home.comcast.net/~john.baumgart/varslab/vamslab.html

Thanks in advance for the help,

It was one of the pattern designs submitted by a private mint to the US Mint for the new small dollar coin. The Sacky beat that one out if you can believe it.

      Hello Doug,
Came by to see what kind of coins you like, and was blown away by your albums. Question what is that flawless coin with Liberty & the year 2000 obverse & Peace at the bottom of the reverse, all of those coins are out of this world, but that one really caught my eye, what is it? When you get time...
      Thanks,
      steve

You can change it yourself any time you want to Lew. It's the forum software that assigns those designations based on the number of posts a member has.

If you want to change it ust go to your Settings page. Once there scroll down until you see My Settings in the left hand column. Then click on Edit Profile. When that page opens the second thing down says Optional Information. Right under that you will see Custom User Title with your current title listed in bold print. Beside that you will a little check box that say Reset. Click and put a check mark in that little box. Then type in the custom user title you'd like to have in the blank box right below it. Then scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and click on Save Changes.

That will give you your new user title.

What does it take to remove the "Junior" status from your name in exchange for the much more glamorous "member" ? LOL - guess at my age being called junior still rings a bit sour ....

      Thanks - Lew (55+)

      Doug,
I know I kind of made a splashy entrance to the forum. I really thought I knew my shxt about my coins, but I was collecting by my own devices for over 20 years. I only had me to go by. I guess what Im getting at is Im not so bad once you get to know me. I tend to stir things up by nature, Its a flaw I have. I dont know or need to know CT's corporate status but please tell Peter and the administrators of the site, including yourself, that if you ever run into IRS difficulties that you have direct access to advice from my wife. Everyone hates paying taxes including her. But she is pretty high up in the organization and often helps people when the dreaded knock comes to the door. Just know CT has a friend at IRS. It can be a good thing sometimes. Thanks for all of your advice so far.

Peter is doing updates - everything is changed. It won't last more than a day or two proably.

It looks like I am being restricted from the home page. I have not made many post lately, I wonder if that has something to do with it. Has something changed?

Then I phrased it wrong. I guess what I should have said is that with craps you have 98.5% chance of winning. With coins you have a 50% chance of winning.

Rather obviously - your chances with craps would be much better than with coins.

      Hi, Doug,

Didn't want to clutter the "Investment" thread with this, because it's off topic.

The equivalent to the house advantage for coins is transaction costs -- it's what it costs to be in the game even if your performance is the statistical average. That's one key reason your point is correct about coins being a lousy way to make money. Worse than craps, even. On average it costs you 1.5% of your stake to play craps once. Buying and selling a coin once costs way more than that.

If you care about the math, 50-50 odds mean a house advantage of 0%.

Now what that means jello is the new equipment and test that PCGS can run will detect stuff like putty that is added to coins to fill in contact marks or hide scratches. It will also detect metal that may have been added to the coin.

This does not mean in any way, shape or form, that they can tell you what chemicals a coin may have been dipped in. This is because when a coin is dipped properly there is no trace of the dip left on the coin. So there is nothing to detect.

      "jello - 06-22-2010

Doug ck out 6/21/2010 Coin World pg#10 Pcgs has a full page article about the new coin sniffer"

jello I read that article when the magazine came out. I think you need to read it again because you apparently do not understand what they are saying.

They say and I quote - "PCGS announced that it has a process in development that will detect any foriegn substance on a coin's surface."

They go on to say further - "......,this detection process(code named by the grading firm as the PCGS Coin Sniffer) will analyze the surfacres of a coin in a matter of seconds to detect foreign substances and provide quantitative information about the coin, PCGS officials state.

Coin docotors often numerous materials to the surfaces of coins to conceal problems with the coin or alter the surfaces to imporve its appearance in an attempt to artificially increase its value."
