I'm fairly new to CoinTalk and I seen a thread on the Clinker Award... I would like to know exactly how to nominate this thread : EXHIBIT: The Morgan Dollar ... This thread was extremely helpful to me and is an easy read for others..

      Thanks again,

No, not at all. I thought I explained it later, but ......

It's pretty much an accepted fact that 80% of raw coins are problem coins for one reason or another. So out of the group of all raw coins out there, if they were submitted, then 80% of them would not slab because they ar eproblem coins.

That is a different thing than saying that 80% of all coins submitted come back in body bags or problem coin holders.

But that is because most of the coins that are submitted are examined by somebody that knows what they are doing. So most of the problem coins are weeded out before they are submitted. They are never submitted at all.

I understood your post to mean 80% of raw coins sent in come back with details on the slabs lable. That isnt what you said?
      Thanks,

      Steve

No Steve, I didn't say that 80% of all coins sent to TPGs come back in details grade holders - not at all.

What I said was that 80% of raw coins, meaning those that are not slabbed, are problem coins and that would be detail graded. There's a difference.

Most people that submit coins know how to tell or ask someone who does know how to tell, before they send them in.

The point I am making is that a whole lot of collectors have problem coins in their collection and don't even know it. That is because most collectors cannot identify a lot of problem coins.

      GDJMSP,
I really wanted to thank you for your post that mentioned 80% of the coins sent in for TPGing come back in slabs listed with details. My plan was to send in two entire collections at once to the same TPG after I selected one. You saved me a lot of money, and maybe a coronary. Think I will stick with plan A which was only key dates and leave the rest alone. Thanks Really. Hope you dont think Im a Bonehead after the bust half grading thread. When I searched the Overton and saw that Al used the term struck, please note I posted quickly that I was wrong. Well once again thank you for saving me a boat load of money.
