jello I read that article when the magazine came out. I think you need to read it again because you apparently do not understand what they are saying.

They say and I quote - "PCGS announced that it has a process in development that will detect any foriegn substance on a coin's surface."

They go on to say further - "......,this detection process(code named by the grading firm as the PCGS Coin Sniffer) will analyze the surfacres of a coin in a matter of seconds to detect foreign substances and provide quantitative information about the coin, PCGS officials state.

Coin docotors often numerous materials to the surfaces of coins to conceal problems with the coin or alter the surfaces to imporve its appearance in an attempt to artificially increase its value."

It's pretty much an accepted fact that 80% of raw coins are problem coins for one reason or another. So out of the group of all raw coins out there, if they were submitted, then 80% of them would not slab because they ar eproblem coins.

That is a different thing than saying that 80% of all coins submitted come back in body bags or problem coin holders.

But that is because most of the coins that are submitted are examined by somebody that knows what they are doing. So most of the problem coins are weeded out before they are submitted. They are never submitted at all.

No Steve, I didn't say that 80% of all coins sent to TPGs come back in details grade holders - not at all.

What I said was that 80% of raw coins, meaning those that are not slabbed, are problem coins and that would be detail graded. There's a difference.

Most people that submit coins know how to tell or ask someone who does know how to tell, before they send them in.

The point I am making is that a whole lot of collectors have problem coins in their collection and don't even know it. That is because most collectors cannot identify a lot of problem coins.
