$1,350: In the next 7-days they say... Watch out! We might see a lot of sharp up and down spikes this month while this is playing out.

Just read the article and ALL the comments at the end; whew! Reminiscent of "Y2K" a bit (well, a lot actually..) An interesting read, and certainly thought provoking. Now I can worry about something more... guns and ammo :) (Nah, got that covered..:) Thank you for the post.

I read the comments too. I feel comments are just as valuable as any article I read. Articles only give you the perspective of the author. But the comments provide real world thoughts of inviduals out there. They also have keep the author in check. Say anything that's decisively incorrect and you will get called out!!

Anyways, there seems to be a bit more fundamentals backing todays issues. Y2K was all about a digital bug. Logically we thought that it would have cause record keeping to be screwed up. IT companies including myself scrambled to patch PC and servers. So it's hard to quantify if we were proactive enough to prevent a disaster.

With PM's, it's not a bug, but just sound fundamentals....with some manipulation here and there, of course I can't prove any of that....something has to give....right now, the doom and gloom economists who have pointed out that the USD will continue to devalue seem to be right...what does Uncle Sam have to say about that? If they are wrong, then why isn't the dollar strong?

My husband used to say to his employees who might scoff at this or that (salesmen..) something like this, "...if I do MY job right (as CEO) you will always say there was no problem to begin with, because I will have headed it off.." or words to that effect, meaning, in regards to this particular subject (as you wrote), who knows what Y2K might have been had not all of the behind the scenes "scrambling" and patches etc.. taken place. Perhaps we DID stave off the Y2K "bug" (I don't mean we, I mean "WE" collectively..). I drink coffee out of my Y2K bug mug almost daily, to remind myself that perhaps we were just a bit ahead of our time for that instance. However, I have saved nearly every reference manual, and all the preparations "just in case someday". Personally, though I hope never to need any of it, (and I DO have a lot of supplies that most would never consider..) I am very ready, just in case. Most (or many?)people do not think beyond the moment, and that is probably why we are on the slippery slope right now. Regarding precious metals, everything I have was an "insurance policy" for the "worst case scenario", which is why I am so stumped now for what to do with it! Are we headed to bad times, or not? In my way of thinking, yes, it's just a matter of time.
Sounds perhaps like we were (or I am) whack jobs, but really, my husband was very educated, a midas touch kind of guy, very perceptive on people, brilliant with numbers, and very successful in business. We terminated a profit sharing plan for the whole company (created an opening for those who wanted a one time access to their funds) back in 98, with 2000 in mind. Rolled into a new plan with no consequence, a better plan, blah blah blah. He knew the rules very very well, and these times, he was sure would come (these that we see now). I am on this board for insight (as I have repeatedly written) to hear the "comments" of which you wrote -- they are what help me to understand these times better. So thank you for all of these comments that go back and forth. Why, I'm even looking around now to see what antique glass insulators do I have? :) :) Seriously, I do struggle with the (real) meaning of devaluation, inflation, hyperinflation, and their impacts..and did I mention quantitive easing? Thanks again.

Well, I'm really just a lurker here like you Lucy. The things I say are just things off the top of my head, I try to be level headed. I have skin in the game, quite a bit actually but I knew the risks going in. The *only* reason why I have not bought any more PM's is that I need to balance out my PM to cash ratio before I purchase more PM's. I have a comfortable goal that I have not yet met, but I'm not comfortable with where my cash reserves are right now.

And although the prices are high today, someone is going to let the air out for profit taking. Again, nothing I can prove. I wouldn't be shocked to see silver back down to the $18's....then go back up again.....two steps forward, one step back right? That's what I keep in mind.

I wish your husband was around to see he was RIGHT. To see what these metals are doing...I'm sure he would have been ecstatic! And I'm sure he would have been a great contributor here. Seemed like we are all like-minded.

Just keep reading, keep lurking and put the pieces to the puzzle yourself. Create your own portfolio based on your own circumstances!!!

Yeah, you wouldn't want to be a troll. Basically a troll is one who has no real purpose in posting other than to draw attention. An immature individual that is just instigating an issue and wasting everyone's time.
Sometimes it can be over-used because there really isn't any other word to just slam someone real quick and be done with it....

If you've been on web forums of any kind, sometimes you'll see new posters call a veteran a troll because they don't know any better or don't understand an inside joke. So sometimes it just takes time to know who is who....that's all....

As for lurker, I don't see lurker in any form a bad thing. I'm not really sure what other words out there could describe what I do here.....I'm just a casual/lurker member who makes comments here and there, but most definitely not a super member that participates everyday in many discussions.... I only pay attention to the bullion section....whereas other members are all over the place!!!!

The troll term coming from a mod really came out of left field for me, not sure where that one got the idea... anyhow, here are some definitions of current internet slang:

    Wikipedia: Troll

    Lurker
    :

    Q. What would “lurker” mean?
    A. Somebody who browses but does not post, does not contribute.

While everyone was fixing computers in advance of y2k, some of us just checked our supplies and prepped for an extended camping trip.

Thanks for possibly averting it though.

Thank you for these references; I just also looked up 'lurker' and read Wikipedia's answer. Not a pretty picture, but certainly I get the point. I still hate the word..the connotation.. Perhaps I will take a turn posting prices, and then I will be contributing! :) Just kidding.

I consider myself a poster that is inconsistent in terms of posting. On some days I post mainly in the Bullion section but also in Coin Chat and some other sections of CoinTalk. I am inconsistent in terms of frequency of posting. On some days I post a lot and a regular basis but I also go a few days (or even a few weeks) without posting anything. However, I do lurk on this forum on a regular basis. If I have a silver art bar that is interesting, then I will post it on my silver art bar thread. If I see a thread anywhere on CoinTalk that is interesting to me and I have some knowledge to share about something pertaining to that thread, then I will post on it.

I also post on 2 other internet forums and I have encountered trolls that just want to cause trouble and stir of mess.

Only you can know when to sell based on several factors, personal investment goals, financial needs, what you spent getting in, when you feel its best to cut and run / take profits. Typically PMs are in their strongest cycle towards the end of the year and fall off soon after. There are some cycles with PMs but no one can tell you how PMs are going to perform. There are a lot of people pouring into metals again right now, a lot of media hype we would be best to ignore while staying focused on our positions. With more hype and people getting in, you might expect to see greater spikes in volatility in PMs. Overall, I think there's a lot of room for metals to go over the long run, I can stomach the volatility, I know when I and at what level I want to start taking some of my assets and liquidating them or moving to other positions/investment vehicles. Ultimately, you must to your own research and consider your personal and unique circumstances and try not to let the media and strangers on a forum tell you what to do with your investments. I know that's not an easy or straightforward answer to your question but it's the perspective I have on the question.
