Good points. I would just point out you are paying both professionals for their training and professional perspective. I am not in the investment field, I am CFO of a firm, but my training was graduate school finance and I taught Finance and Economics, just for full disclosure. What my advice would give people is larger picture and relative risk perspective that most people do not have. Yes, there are Madoff's of the world, but every profession has thieves and crooks. Everyone should make up their own mind, and it bothers me that so many things financial salesmen tell you are half truths. The best solution would be for everyone to have an MBA in Finance, but short of that if one of us offers constructive advice, its worth thinking about at least. I read so many peoples comments and just wince at the level of financial literacy in this country. I have to say it is much higher usually on this board than most, though. Maybe a little too bullish on PM's, but that is to be expected.

A "good" professional financial advisor will assist their client's by taking the emotion out of the decision making process. A professional financial advisor knows how their client feels about things that the client will not share even with family members. The financial advice goes way beyond suggesting which mutual fund to buy or sell. As many on this board know, the decision to purchase or sell PM and especially coins will often be a very emotional decision. If you used a professional financial advisor, they should ask you questions about the choices to be made similar to being in therapy. LOL
I honestly try very hard to look for the "constructive" part of any advice given me That in mind, if you were to give ME advice (which I am not asking for), I would try to square what your advice was with what I already know; I would also try to get a feel for what kind of person you are in general since that would help me decide if your bent, or spin if you will, always goes in a certain direction. if what you told me opened up another thought process, I would surely look into it (but not take the advice on blind faith). Your email is great "advice", really! A reminder to all (to me) to keep an open mind! Thank you for taking the time to respond.
forget about asking professional for help. just ask my dear krispy for advise. which i always did. and it's free. he will be willing to help anyone. specially this hobby that we like.
It's as free as anything else shared around here... but for numbers, really BIG numbers especially ones in the green, you can count on Elaine! Though when things get into the red, she'll be on her way to some happy place where down days don't happen.
