there's no such thing as " LEGITIMATE BARS". all art bars and rounds are produced by private mints.

no, banks don't buy silver art bars, as they are not money. you can probably sell it at a coin shop though.

Ok, so if you're planning to save silver and gold, that would be easily tradable say, for example, in hyperinflation, it should be silver and gold coins emitted by central banks right?

If you're looking for gold and silver to quickly turn into cash, bullion issues from government mints would be your best bet. But even those cannot be exchanged at banks, or if they can, you'll only get face value, not bullion value.

Wrong. Central banks do not produce silver or gold coins. The best bet for someone starting out [and almost everyone else] is to buy American Silver Eagle and American Gold Eagle coins produced by the US Mint.

But what's wrong with the other silver and gold bars, coins, etc, if they are genuine 1oz, 10oz 100oz silver or gold?

There is nothing wrong with them at all. They are not "Legal Tender" so banks will not accept them. They must be traded through a coin dealer, pawn shop, bullion broker or private party in order to convert them to cash. In other words, you can't spend them, they must be sold or traded.

Now, realize that Banks do not offer any premium on Silver or Gold coins either. What was said is that a bank will give you only $20 for a $20 gold coin that may have a value of $1300. Banks can only give you the "face" in exchange for currency.

As an added thought, NEVER let any dealer offer to store the bullion or coins they sell you. Always take possession and have the item in hand. Get your own vault box. Dealers in the past have been known to sell the same items to several people. So when the buyers went for delivery, the item could not be handed over. Believe me, if you can't hold it, you don't own it.

I understand you want to get into art bars but if your looking for silver that is actually guaranteed to be silver then buy American Silver Eagles. It's easy to get ripped off on silver bars if you can not get a guarantee it's from a reputable source... American Silver eagles are made by the U.S. Mint...course if you are stuck on art bars that have a way higher premium that you may never get back all that "value" invested stick to sunshine and apmex and I'm sure others will tell you other good silver art bars to buy...but with the exeption of a serious drop in silver prices American silver eagles under $20 or maybe $1-2 over spot are a great deal and you'll be as secure with your value invested as much as you can be in silver and gold investing and you know exactly what you got instead of hoping you don't have a "silver" or "gold" bar with a base metal core...

Thank you! I will do that!

I asked you about the EBAY Buffalo and Walking Eagles Silver Bars because they seemed to be rounded at the correct price, considering the price/ounce_silver on the market! That's why i bought 4 bars from them. The user that sells them on Ebay has more then 13000 sells with very good Seller Ratings. I just cannot understand how could this possibly be anything but .999 Fine 1 ozt Silver bars! It would be hard to fool 10000 people! What do you think about these bars specifically?

Also be careful and read the text in the auction. Some bars are listed as 1 oz. Silver 100 Mills Bar Bullion. What you are getting is a silver plated bar. It's not solid silver.

it's not that hard for them to be counterfeits actually...it's also possible the seller doesn't even know they are counterfeits if they are that is...which is why you want to be as educated about what you are actually getting...buy what you know is real...as far as paying $1-2 over spot for American Silver Eagles..think of it as an insurance policy that you know for a fact what you got...

thanks for that.. i figured "mills" was a somewhat suspicious word.

    yeah... it's kind of suspicious...

On the one hand there you have very good ratings for the seller with more than 13000 sales, with no REPORTS on even ONE SUSPICION of them being counterfeit.

On the other, even though apparently looking well crafted, the seller on Ebay says in their description "This bar is private minted in the USA for our Ebay customers!"

    Very strange
