I'm wanting some opinions and advice keep in mind I'm not making any decisions based solely off your posts here. but I would like some input as to which route seems to be more sound...

in another post hunt1 was asking about AGE's as to numismatic and bullion price based and I wondered about the same for not just AGE's but also if ASE's were included

if you had $500-$700 ( this is to include 1/2oz gold pieces) which of these following 4 types would you invest that money to maximize profits.

I came up with the following 4 basic types, I realize there is a more complete way to put this but I want to see what people come up with based on these settings.

American Silver Eagles bullion (are priced mainly from pm prices )
American Silver Eagles proof (priced by collectors and mintages more then spot price)
American Gold Eagles bullion(are priced mainly from pm prices )
American Gold Eagles proof (priced by collectors and mintages more then spot price)

along with answers I would also like some investing wisdom so defend your answer and also any specific examples of coins

example: I think American Silver Eagles proof (priced by collectors and mintages more then spot price) cause the mintages on 1994 proof is the lowest and I can pick up 6 of them for tunder $700

    post away your opinons :D

Alex, Could you please re-read what you wrote and organize what is that you are asking? Do also check in on what the spot prices of metals are currently at so you understand what your budget can handle. At this point I'm totally baffled but would love to offer anything I can to help...

Perhaps something like this, "I have $x,xxx.00 budget and I'm interested in the following items: x, y, z. What amount of x, y, z would you or would you not invest that money in and why if you care to provide a reason?"

    I'll check back later.

it's not a set budget exactly I just want to see what everyone else thinks and yes if it's a legitmate posting that is well thought out and devoid of bs it might influence me a little in my future purchases but mainly this is for learning purposes as I don't know alot about gold and am wondering if there are any certain cases where it might be a better investment to buy 1-1/10 oz or other gold coin instead of say 7-15 ASES

  5. Not sure if I fully understand the post will give it a shot. With that amount of cash ($500-700) and as an investment as you propose, I would likely buy 2006-2008 burnished ASEs with the W mint mark due to low mintage, decent potential for numismatic appreciation, and based on the fact that you can still purchase at least the 2007 and 2008 dates in OGP pretty close to original mint price. I would also consider the 2006W or 2007W burnished AGEs either 1/4 or 1/10 ounce coins as well. In either case, you have the chance for profit from not only increase in bullion value but likely increased numismatic value in the future. TC

If it's gold versus silver, I'd say silver. It always outperforms gold and has room to grow where as I believe gold only will go down from here. Gold has very little value as a useful metal while silver is being gobbled up in industry more than by investors and collectors combined, much of which is not salvaged and lost. If it's for investment only, but the cheapest silver you can find. A refiner, where you'll find your highest sell later, doesn't pay more for MS70 or proof...it's all the same to them.

A coin shop near me is paying $2 over spot for ASEs. I don't think refiners are the best place to sell anything other than complete junk.

Thats a great price. Thats not the norm though. I guess one needs to do the research when it comes that time to see who's paying the most.
