Very cool - I also like how orders of 10 or more come in original mint tubes... gotta be one heck of a tube :)

those prices would take them right out of bullion category and right into:
'I overpaid for a fake coin'

I dont care, It might be fun to have one. I'll wait a couple years until they go down to bullion price. Sort of like the 4oz ASEs

Unfortunately, 4oz ASEs are not an official US minted coin so your hypothesis is bunk.

The 5 ounce quarter designs will always carry a numismatic premium. Good luck finding them for spot. In a couple of years, they will be even more sought after as collectors will pay a higher premiums for the ones they missed out on at issue price.

Does anybody have any more info on this, like an expected production date, delivery to dealers, or anything else. I'd like to know when I can make a conscious decision to pay the premiums asked and get totally "ripped off".

  15. Last I heard it was late July/early August, so set the alert on the Apmex site and they will e-mail you the moment they arrive. No news on pricing yet. My best guess is somewhere between $150-$199 retail. Anything north of $200 will likely cause many (including me) to pass. TC

Does the mint have anything to say about the retail price? That would be a crock if they could gouge like that for less than a $100 worth of silver when they're supposed to be bullion from the mint.

If people are willing to pay $175, then how would that be gouging? While I will agree that there are limits, if people are willing to pay that, who are you to say that is gouging? What if it's $125, is that gouging, or $225, or $90? I'm really getting tired of this whiny crap, the market will bear out what is reasonable, and for some to whine before any price is set is beyond ridiculous. If you want the feds to set and hold limits in a free market, how is it free?

Whatever! The point with bullion is the mint is supposed to be using distributors to get the product to market because it's more efficient for the government. Not so a few can GOUGE because the mint sold all of the product to them. How would you like it if the mint sold me all the proof sets and I set the price to you? That my friend, has nothing to do with a free market and it's one of the reasons a completely free market is a fantasy and not desirable.

The response was in reference to speculation that they would sell for $175.
