Yes, they can be trusted. I have used them plenty of times and recommend them. You can also search older CoinTalk threads and look up LOTS of other recommendations and ideas on which products are priced with what premiums, and how to consider their shipping prices, customer service, etc. Just use the Search feature at the top of every CT page. There are also APMEX Marketing folks who are members of CT. :smile

    What an odd question.

I have met the owner of APMEX and several APMEX exployees. Every summer APMEX sends several employees to the ANA Summer Seminar so they can improve their grading and authentication skills. (Name another PM dealer that does that. Didn't think you could.) APMEX employees account for a large percentage of Summer Seminar attendees and I commend them for that.

While I have never had any business dealings with APMEX I think APMEX has high standards and I would feel very comfortable doing business with them.

I might also suggest some comparison shopping for the OP. I find Provident Metals to be similar and equally professional. Highly recommend both dealers.

How's it odd? maybe to an experienced bullion collector or someone who spends time in this section, which i havent and i even stated it may be a dumb question but im not gonna tie money up in a company ive never heard of.

I do not believe they send their employees to the ANA any longer. They no longer deal in collectible coins. They are going to all bullion. All they are doing now is selling off their coins. APMEX posted it here several months ago.

I have done business with APMEX in the past and they are an excellent company to do business with. They can be trusted.

I found it. Here is the thread where they announced they were discontinuing coins. It is in the "OPEN" forum, so I cannot quote it.

    APMEX Discontinuing Most Numismatic Items
We just want to let everyone know that APMEX will no longer be selling certain types of coins, currency, collectibles and supplies! This decision has been made to accommodate the growing requests from our customers for more precious metal and bullion related items. Going forward, we will still be buying and selling all Gold, Silver, Platinum & Palladium Bullion as well as semi-bullion items like Silver Dollars, Pre-1933 Gold, 40% and 90% Silver, and a few other selected items that our customers want. EVERY other numismatic item will be reduced for immediate liquidation.

I've bought from them with no issues. I'll most likely buy from them again and would be doing most of my bullion business with them if not for another company that I was informed of on here.

Now I'm wondering who voted no and didn't post a reason why. (is it one of the anti-dealer establishment on here???)

    Krispy,
Where do you navigate for a new thread? I would like to ask - does anyone recommend Monarch for buying ASE Dollars? I am looking for endorsements for buying ASE Dollars for about a $1 over spot. I have did some successful transactions with Ampex. wagair2

Based on this release, it appears that they will still be carrying such things as Morgan & Peace dollars and other 40% & 90% silver. It doesn't state that they are getting rid of all collectible coins.

For your question, first go to the Bullion Investing section. Then look for the button near the top left corner of the page to start a 'New Thread' (see image attached). Next write your thread title and questions/statement, etc., click submit new thread at the bottom and wait for folks to respond. :smile

You may also use the search function at the top of the page. Monarch has come up in past threads.

That is very admirable of APMEX. Out of curiosity, would you let us know if any of the APMEX employees attend the ANA seminars this summer?

    Thanks!

You can send dmccarty a question about this. He's the Director of Marketing at APMEX and occasionally on CT when the company has something new to announce.

I noticed there is a "no" vote. Did someone have a bad experience? I am interested to hear what it was. I have placed a few orders with APMEX and been satisfied. I am thinking about selling and am interested in input on that.

I certainly will. I am taking a Counterfeit Detection course where I would expect to find a couple of APMEX employees if they are still sending employees to Summer Seminar.

I ordered a couple of BU Peace Dollar's from them (Raw). They were AU sliders. That being said, they were common dates, so no harm no foul. I also picked up Roger Burdettes Peace Dollar book for $4.99! Still can't believe how cheap the book was.

FYI, that was not my no vote. I did not vote, since I don't have enough experience with APMEX to make such a determination.

My vote is yes. I've only used them because of the name recognition I was getting about them at the time I started investing.

There are others out there too that are also just as trustworthy so they aren't the only source.

I too would like to know who the NO votes are as I've never had any bad experiences with them.....

@ Hunt1, this was not a dumb question. I believe you will find that APMEX meets the "trust" test. They also have some very kind and prompt numismatic professionals. Mr. Issac Wallie of APMEX has sought out and reseached information for me when I have needed it (such as rarity numbers for tokens, population estimates).

It is too bad APMEX is pulling back on their numismatic coin offerings. I miss their nice selection of middle eastern coins (Iran mostly).

As far as quality assurance goes - I would grade them A++, bullion pricing A, pricing for slabbed coins/not so sure - sometimes an A, sometimes a B+. Their specials are a lot of fun. It is a good opportunity to try something new at a discount. :)
