Hey friends, I've been on this forum for around a year or more and I don't remember ever seeing a wrong planchet error. Like a nickel on a penny or a penny on a dime. Anyone got one?? Did I miss one that was posted??
Some guy had a Liberty Nickel struck on an unknown planchet. The thread was pretty long. I'm not sure if he ever found out for sure what the planchet was intended for.
Below your Avatar it says you joined in July 2009, not yet a year, but congrats on nearly making it there. :smile You can check out many examples of such coins on the minterrornews.com musuem Also, simply run the CT keyword search: Finest Known Indian Head Cent Struck In GOLD On A $2½ Planchet 1900 Liberty nickel...What planchet? I believe one of the main reasons we don't see them is they are pretty scarce. Wrong Planchet, Wrong Metel, Double Denominations, and Mated Pairs are all just to few and far between. And expensive. Another reason is when people do stumble upon these, they tend to sell them to dealers. Dealers either put them in there collections, or sell them to some serious error collectors. I would love to see some myself...
Yes they are expensive! I have to have one, with everything else on my wish list it'll take awhile but its on the list none the less. I'll have to stop buy a coin show in the middle of the month and hold one to quench my desire for awhile. This economy is terrible!! ouch I'll check out the links, much appreciated!!
Check these out on Fred Weinberg's site. Expensive? Nah! http://www.fredweinberg.com/inventory/categorylist.php?ErrorID=6 Chris
