This is the coolest error EVER (IMHO)! Check out this article in Mint Error News magazine! (By the way, I'm also posting this same thread on the general US Coin forum because it is such an amazing coin - I hope this is ok!

I'm not sure if this is allowed, but I thought it worthy of posting this article here as well as in the Error Coins section. It is such a fantastic error that I wanted the general CT forum to see it. It really is the most amazing error I've ever seen. Check it out!!!

I can't even imagine how much that coin would sell for in today's market (over 1 million for sure). That is an incredible rarity and a beautiful coin. Thanks for sharing.

That is so awesome. Too bad that design wasn't always in gold. Though I love them just as they are.

The Indian cent struck on a quarter eagle planchet. The year 1900 was listed
by Pollock as P1990 because of the possibility that they were deliberately
struck for collectors. The only problem with this is that 1900 is not the only
date known. The illustrated 1906 piece was offered in Stacks June 2004 sale
and Taxay lists 1907 and, also, 3 other years for Lincoln cents in his 1976
    Comprehensive Catalog.

With regard to the 1900, 3 or 4 are believed to exist including the circulated
1993 ANA example and the PCGS MS 65 Col Green, Beck, Byers coin, which is
illustrated above, and is believed to be the finest known for any of these. The
earliest known purchase for one of these was the 1900 in the Dewitt Smith
collection that was purchased by Virgil Brand in 1908 and entered into the
    Brand journals as item #46973

forgot to mention this why didnt it get higher grade is it because its a error?

not sure but I doubt it is because it's an error, most likely just the usual technical details that would warrant an MS65 grade (strike, marks, etc.).

These few coins must have been pressed intentionally for the mint workers or maybe a politician/collector at the time. These coins are something we can only dream about. A gold IHC? Who here could pay the price for one of these coins?

For me, it's an unattainable dream that I almost wish I didn't know about. But, now that I do know about them I'll see if I can squeeze them into my retirement IRA!

And, Charmy, The Penny Lady, thanks to you I'll never get those GOLD coins out of my mind. Bad enough that you posted all those gorgeous rainbow IHC recently. Now I don't know what I want first.

At my age I cant save up enough for any of them. But I can always go back and see what you've posted. It's all been good.

    Thanks so much

    Bruce

Bruce, I am happy you appreciate these coins as much as I do, and I too will never be able to own such an amazing error, but it sure is nice to see it and know of its existence. I can't wait to see it in person at the L.A. ANA since the owner will have it on display there.
