HELENA, Mont. (AP) — Montana officials expect to reclaim millions in gold as they start cleaning up an old mine site north of Yellowstone National Park.

The Montana Department of Environmental Quality says reclaiming the 30-acre McLaren Tailings Site near Cooke City is a multimillion dollar project that will also result in salvageable gold that can be sold.
Mine waste from the site contaminates Soda Butte Creek, which extends into the park.
The agency expects to remove a half-million tons of contaminated waste. A portion will be transported to a commercial mine to recover gold that remains in the tailings.
The state estimates there could be $25 to $30 million worth of gold in the tailingshttp://www.abcmontana.com/news/state/95457959.html

That's great news. I wonder if they will recover enough gold to cover all of the costs. If so it may bode well for other such projects.

I wonder if they can recover enough oil from the gulf fiasco to pay for the cleanup? Sorry, off topic and ranting.......
