When will they stop selling Julia Tyler gold coins? I haven't bought any FS coins but I caN't resist buying the lowest minted gold coin.
Final Strikes...the Pallbearers..... Yup, that's what is the wanted thing is THIS series! Who will be the fortunate few who obtain the last 'strikes' (and they're out!). The 'Pallbearers of the Yak-Pak', those who are with the dearly departed in her final moments, and who escort her upon her final, final journey. ------ I can darn near smell the flowers.
The mintages are enticing (I have quite a few $$ tied up in the series already)...but there's a voice inside me that says "BEWARE!!!". Check out my latest comment/warning in the [Four Beautiful "Liberty" Presidential Spouses] thread.
Will do, and the only reason I might get one (besides the low mintages) is because I won 1250$ and I need to put it into something I won't spend
Congrats on the big win!!! :hail: Please keep in mind that any advice I might offer on First Spouse coins is purely speculative. One rule I try to follow is to buy coins from the Mint on the first day (regardless of price) or try to get an NGC/PCGS graded specimen (no lower than MS69/PF69) off eBay for the same price. The Jane Pierce (and earlier) coins may be overlooked because of the Buchanan Liberty (Last Liberty) and the Mary Todd Lincoln coins coming out later in the year. There are quite a few people that collect "anything Lincoln" and could make that one a sellout. There are also many people that gave up on the First Spouse series, but want to complete the "Liberty" sub-series. That one could be a sellout as well. So the question is...if you decide to buy a FS coin, do you go with the higher mintage, more popular coin or the lower mintage, less popular coin. Do you go with Proof or Uncirculated? That's a decision only you can make. :kewl:
Thanks! It's actually a scholarship in the form of a check in my name. I figure I'd invest some of it in gold/silver, as I've already done before and made some money. Ahhh too many choices!! I need to do some research, I'll probably just ditch the FS idea and instead buy a 1/2 oz of gold and then some silver bars
That sounds like a better idea...you'll probably need the money before you see much of a return on FS coins.
Probably, so I guess I'll stick with what I'm already doing :/ However, in a couple of years when I actually have some money, I'll definitely be grabbing the Liberty Presidential coins. I've had my eye on them for a while :smile
This is the latest Mint press release as reported by the Coin Update News. All I can say is "Geeze...NOW you tell us!" I wonder what other internal policy "got'chas" are out there!
hah, I like that transparency line, juxtaposed with UNrevealed internal policies, a good laugh for today. What next? Double secret probation?
LOL I understand the theory behind the policy and it makes sense really...but it's all this "Oh, by the way..." crap that brings me down. :goof: They should know that people are making purchasing decisions based on the Mint's information. For instance, the Mint gives every indication that the Mint's "sales" figures are an accurate representation of each First Spouse coin's mintage...but they don't explicitly say that. I'm concerned about the coins that are minted and not sold during the one (1) year period (which they arbitrarily shorten or extend on a whim). If the coins are melted, fine! ...say that! But they don't...and the legislation that governs the program only says the coins can't be sold after the conclusion of the Presidential coin program...which should be sometime in early 2016. I don't know what I would do if the Mint pulled a stunt like that. :headbang::headbang::headbang: I wouldn't be happy :crying:
Got my order in for two (2) each of the Jane Pierce coins...WooHoo!! Now I gotta figure out how I'm gonna pay for them. :crying: I hope everyone that wants one got their orders in today. Both the Letitia and Julia Tyler gold coins are officially "off sale" from the US Mint!!! I guess we have to wait until next week to see the final numbers, but if this week's sales are any indication...both these coins BLEW AWAY the Anna Harrison as the new Key dates!! :hail: As of 02 June 2010... Letitia Tyler (sold out) .....Unc: 3152 (+7) ...Proof: 5163 (+13) Julia Tyler (sold out) .....Unc: 2861(+54) ...Proof: 4830(+18) Previous Key Date... Anna Harrison (sold out) .....Unc: 3537 ...Proof: 6250 Note: The Margaret Taylor Unc coins decreased by 249 this week! I suspect those are returns the Mint will send out in the next wave of orders. :goof:
http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...1&parent_category_rn=20738&top_category=20738 Pierce spouse: buy now or wait for lower gold prices? What say you?:hammer:
what makes you think that lower gold prices will result in the mint lowering their prices on these coins?
Doh! Just slightly too expensive for me....Thank God I have a year to buy them! As far as the ABG goes...... Way too expensive there. I remember when these were selling for $800 just a few years ago!
You can wait on the Proof, but you better get the Unc now or pick up a graded one on eBay...otherwise you'll buy someone else's rejects.
