Where is the best place to buy Gold or Silver Eagles? I looked at a couple places but they seemed to be ether inflated in price or shipping was insane. Thank you.
I would think that APMEX would still be competetive on single coins. I'm looking at buying some supplies from them (they are pretty cheap on stuff) and I'm probably going to get a 1/2 AGE just for fun because I don't have any.
The shipping charge is where they "get you". Avoid that by going to coin shows. Bring home the coin the same day, no waiting for the mailman. Dealers shops are another way but I think better deals are at coin shows.
APMEX want's 13 dollars to ship a single Silver Eagle coin. It is the same price for the 1/10 gold eagle too. So i am not sure whats up there.
It's the insurance and handling. Your best bet is to buy some supplies along with the coin. I'm working on an order right now. They have alot of cool stuff like airtites and empty tubes/boxes.
I found a place that seems much more reasonable, has anyone tried here? http://lynncoins.net/ http://lynncoins.net/index.php?l=page_view&p=shipping_policy
what type of a mark up over spot would be considered to high? a coin store close to me does 3.50 above, considering that compared to 10 to 13 for shipping i dont think its to bad.
Moderncoinmart.com and Mintproducts.com offer competitive pricing and very reasonable shipping rates. Moderncoinmart.com just started selling raw bullion this year. TC
Indeed. I like dealing with moderncoinmart for that very reason. On the issue of buying locally, in many states, including unfortunately, the one I live in, the dealer will collect sales tax on the coin which is quite significant on a gold coin. It's 8.25% here now due to recent increases so tax on a AGE is over 100 bucks, ouch. This is why I buy on-line.
After buying from several dealers I buy my gold coins from moderncoinmart.com. Reasonable s/h and insurance, they ship relatively fast and arrive in a sturdy package. Never had any problems with their shipments.
If I have to pay taxes on a $1000 coin purchase, I'd rather go buy on line. It just the math. The bottom line is the way to go. Bruce
Your best bet is a local coin shop, Just check it out first and make sure Your not paying to much of a premium, And you will save those high Shipping costs!! Which no one likes
In many states, the sales tax on the purchase will be more than the shipping. It depends on where you live.
It also depends on how much you buy, I used to live in California And there if you spent over $1,000 it was tax free, All states are Different, Not sure about here in Indiana though? And in some cases even if there is sales tax sometimes the Shop owner will give you a break and it never hurts to ask!
