I sometimes will buy BU 40% Kennedy Halves, 90% Roosevelts and Quarters, certain 40% Pieces have white spots or other blemishes, I keep them in coin tubes but will they continue to spot? I handle them by the rims though
Thank you for welcoming me most of my Junk silver is circulated but if I find for good price I will buy BU, I guess it can be the ''OCD'' in me, I am like that with paper cash as well prefer ''crisp'' condition
Everybody like looking at B/U coins however if your just looking to extract the bullion price, condition would be secondary.
I think it's because financially at the moment I can't really afford Silver Eagles, Bars or Rounds, and I love look at any form of silver in BU condition, but most of my junk silver I treat like regular change
Use caution when paying a premium for “BU” junk silver. The coin in this picture is not BU. Note the wear on the cheek and neck. It is known as a“slider”. It should be called for what it is - AU with no additional premium. PS If you can buy a roll of 40% junk silver Kennedy haves at $60 you can buy an ASE and have money left over.
It depends on what caused the spotting but yes, if it’s BU it will continue to spot. I don’t see BU in your photo. I’m seeing light wear and that’s means it’s high AU. Welcome to CT.
Welcome to CT. Good question, "milk spotting" is caused by planchet cleaning that doesn't get rinsed off. I'm not sure I have ever seen it addressed if this kind of damage will continue to get worse or if it is stable (I don't think it will get better with time)
I have some wild Business strikes that sweat in the cellophane. I don't want to hijack your thread though. @Anthony T My point is that some of what you are seeing is probably just toning.
I was wondering the 90% Quarters and Dimes that I have in circulated condition will they tone or develop spots as well?
Anthony, saw the dimes selling for 97.50 to 100.00 per tube of 5.00 Face Value. Now for quarters 200.00 to 210.00 per tube of 10.00 FV. 90% junk. they sell within a day or less. Me holding tight unless I see a near Spot deal or something I really want. AGREE with C-Nut their past the toning stage.
