I love that design. I picked the silver version up this past weekend at the local show.

Bought these through Panda America. They are 1/20th, 1/10th, 1/4, 1/2 and 1 oz in the set.....I added the 2oz. on the far left......they are all PROOF and amazing coins. About $218 shipped.

Very pretty. My rough calculations indicate that you spent about 55.90 an ounce on the coins total.

Mexican Libertads are quite beautiful designs and personally equal that of the ASE in my book. Libertad proofs normally sell at a significant premium but Libertads whether proof or unc sell with a hefty premium, even more steep than an ASE compared to regular bullion. Some older Libertads sell currently with significant premiums realized so I wouldn't worry too much about over paying although $55.90 is pretty rich for my blood.

Panda American and Apmex both sell the 5 oz. Proof Libs for $199.99 and regularly run out of stock on them.

Check the price of the 1983 proof. They were made for the 1982/1983 proof sets of which 998 were produced. The only way to get an 83 proof onza is to cut it out of a set (or buy one that's already been cut out).

I don't know how many intact sets are extant, but I can tell you where 7 of them are. Unfortunately, only 6 are still in the original box and only 3 or 4 still have the COA with the serial number.

Only 998 of those coins exist, yet the price is FAR less than the 1995-W proof ASE. Why?

Supply and demand. The demand for the 95-W outweighs the 83 onza by a mile and three quarters.

The mintage of the 86 onza (or libertad) is comparable to the 95-W and the 87 onza is about a third. Both are easily obtained for under $50.

A complete set of Mexican libertads would a nice sight.

¡Oooooh...! qué chido... Really nice pick up and super nice pics too!
I quite like their use of silver foil covered papers tubes.
I recently got my first 5 oz. Proof Libertad, 2010 dated, and I really like it too.
