I think that would be a risky proposition, I don't see any conservation in that video
he is just trying to make the coin in to something its not, and that's why he got it on the cheap because of the spots, the last thing you want is details on a coil like cleaning that's instance death...LOL

 

I'd definitely soak it in distilled water may help it some, hope he don't dip it! Dude called it a bullion coin and didn't say anything about pre-33! Typical foreigner! j/k

methods you could use ? would be tough

I don’t give that one much of a chance of ever getting a straight grade.

 

I just watched a blurp on the saddle ridge hoard.
There were pictures of the coins as they came out of the cans.
The grading company conserved them (cough cough cleaned the gold coins)
Did a sweet job with them, graded and slabbed.

 

Have seen some of those coins for sale, tough years to I believe they were A/U

 

We all know about cleaning coins (BAD) !!! and hes sending it to be graded
DETAILS CLEANED !! the death of any coin !!

ebay just sold one in June.
It was interesting enough with a little character under $3k

 

I would love to see what that graded out at ? that image is down right ugly !
seems like someone poured acid on or some other corrosive, I tell you what
behind the ugly stain, the coin is very decent, not much pitting from what
I see.

Environmental damage

1878s double eagle recovered from the Saddle Ridge Hoard. This coin graded by PCGS is in genuine AU detail condition and shows the effects of being buried in a metal container prior to discovery. The rust stains are permanent and part of the provenance of this coin.

Gold is Gold, I'd be ok with it if I needed one from this hoard.
I thought the wooden box was a nice touch.

Be interesting to know if PCGS tried to conserve this one and couldn't.... finding a different way to market it.

 

I think any oddity would sell with the PCGS label on it..LOL
