which one do you prefer? I realize that the mintage is much lower for the Burnished set, but what would be a good price for both? Thanks!

  4. 2008 was a strange year for platinum coins from the US Mint. They went on sale and then disappeared only to reappear later on in the year. Platinum prices skyrocketed but then dropped off. I do not collect the platinum series but from what I have seen of these prefer burnished. As far as pricing goes, TRY to get them as close to platinum spot as you can TC

Yeah it was a strange year...

Close to spot as I can? Reality check. Not even considering that. these coins are like the eagles and buff burnished set. I don't see those very close to spot either...

  6. That's why I capitalized TRY. I realize there is a huge premium on the 2008 platinums (like the 2008 eagles and buffalos). However, IMO the platinum series is not as popular as the AGE or AGB series with collectors and also there seems to be many less platinum bullion than gold bullion investors. Given those factors and others, along with the instability of the platinum market, I think these are a risky buy at the current premiums. With the 2008 AGE and AGB burnished, well that's a different story. TC

It true that the gold is always going to be more popular, but these coins near spot price is very unrealistic, as in not worth even TRYING. These coins are awesome and I want em!

I bought a 2008 quarter ouncer in a slab, I paid way more than bullion price for it, but I kind of considered buying it a present to the dealer who has been so nice to me, the slab had been sitting in his shop for months and months. I am thinking of taking it to the coin show today to see what it would go for. I think just bullion price I would end up losing about 70 dollars on it.

    grabbed em

I have come to my own conclusion that the PAE 08 W's are THE coins to get NOW. How much more room can the buffs grow? The eagles sill have much climbing to do, but I am confident that the Plat Eagles Proof and Burnsihed are true sleepers that have the most room to grow. The Observe is the sexiest I've ever seen on a plat coin.

Importaint to also note that with Pt being 1600/oz, the much higher 'melt floor price' actually makes these coins LESS RISKY than its gold 08 W counterparts. Think about it!:eek:hya::kewl:
