    What!?!

I do not understand your perception of reality, The reality is they are worth more than two cents today and that in a couple decades it will be legal to smelt them. Would you shy away from filtering out dollars, half dollars, quarters, dimes and even wheat cents out of your pocket change back in 1965 just because it was illegal than to smelt for silver or that so many wheat cents were around that they were worth only 1 cent? So now someone has filled you in on this and if it is still beyond your understanding than I am at a loss to further explain:)

Well, I keep these in my bedroom, so.....if you can convince me you only want a jar of copper pennies and will then just leave......:rolling:

I'll have to think about it as it happens as I flip the safety off.

to hoard or not to hoard. it's 23 vs: 28 (20+8). for the meantime. not to hoard is the winner.

    Not really!

Any number of those 8 voters might have chose to keep them if forced just to keep or spend :)

I was hoarding them as i was going through boxes of pennies, cashed them all in at the bank (Yeah they just love me). Had about $150.00 worth. Took my niece out for her birthday.

Is it worth it for scrap, probably no. As collector, yeah i will do it again.

    Kind regards,
    Stan

I started to hoard copper but I got so much of it in so little time that it was getting a little overboard. I've come up with a new method of hoarding copper. I was born in 1981 so I am saving and hoarding 1981 cents. ---- And all AU that I find. My pile isnt growing quite so fast now.

Is there anybody that would buy your pennies for what they're actually worth?

The talk of copper not being bullion is weird. The copper penny weighed 3.11 grams. 10 pennies would weight 31.1 grams...exactly a troy ounce. If copper isn't bullion, when why is it weighted in a bullion like manner?

The lack of foresight of some people troubles me. If people think the penny will keep going on year after year after year when it cost the mint more money to make them then what they are worth, that's pretty poor foresight. It isn't if, but when the mint decides to stop making pennies as we know them, the price probably won't change much. Melting them will still be illegal, and there are so many that they won't leave circulation for decades. But, what happens after those decades are over and pennies are a rarity as the Fed itself isn't subjected to the melting law. The mint could make dimes out of the copper that is in those pennies...a clear indication of inflation. As the pennies become more and more scarce, people will treasure the penny, maybe as a curiosity of the past century. Will you or I benefit from these copper cents? Probably not. But are we so selfish to spend them now, when they'd bring some nice cash to our great great grandchildren?

One should always check their train of thought.

    Proverbs 26:1-11
When A Fool Has More Hope Than The Wise

I did the Poll because " I think I know the answer " , but what better way to assure the correct path, than but to hold a census of minds possibly wiser than yourself?

Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning.
Albert Einstein ( Not too mention while thinking of Einstein the answer to this quote of yours came to me, I did this to test my THEORY, in case you do not understand this, a THEORY is not already knowing = fact, and you must test a theory a lot for it to even be considered a fact:D not to mention quit banging your head and yelling at people that are smart enough to ask questions:D

I really enjoyed your answers and views SilverSurfer and coin_man_95 I hardly consider checking my change when making a purchase for accuracy a "WASTE OF TIME" and plucking the copper only takes a mere split second as I put it away as I walk away!

Not yet. But right now you can acquire them for face value. Once someone starts paying intrinsic value, it will be too late to collect them and they will rapidly disappear from circulation. Nobody knows for sure if or when this will happen.
