Awesome!! Oh and btw that Vigo Bay coin sold for slightly over $1 million (£845,000 to be specific) back in 2019. If you ever get bored and feel like learning more there is even a Wikipedia page with some basic information which is separate from the also existing quintuple sovereign Wikipedia page.
Nice Mohur by the way! Didn’t they use a gold coin in circulation back in the day also called a Mohur?
Great info on the 5 guinea, crazy expensive! The Mohur is the same weight as a Tola, more information below link, the 2022 Gold Mohur only had 100 coins minted! https://www.theeastindiacompany.com/bullion/2022-one-mohur-gold-proof-coin/
Yeah, that's the one I really want but I don't have thousands of dollars to buy one so I bought what I could! Here's one on ebay, it's been there for quite awhile, could be they're asking too much moola! https://www.ebay.com/itm/1848798161...wVJ+oh/7vdGKecVYPWE34MjHyojq|tkp:BFBMvtaW6axg
Any idea on what the approximate value of a mohur was in those days? Like what was the equivalent British gold coin? Or closest equivalent? For example the US $5 gold piece was closest to the British sovereign and I’m curious about the Mohur value. Im guessing maybe the double sovereign? It looks about that size.
No idea, weight was 11.6 grams so maybe not equivalent to anything else. Maybe that's why they were forgotten about, double sovereign weighs more at 15.9.
Congrats! How do the Canadian $5 gold pieces compare to $5 US gold pieces in terms of gold content? More gold? Less gold? Equal gold?
U.S gold just weighing under 1 gram more. https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide/world/canada-5-dollars-km-26-1912-1914-cuid-1034666-duid-1269604. https://www.ngccoin.com/coin-explor...gles/indian-head-5-1908-1929/18523/1912-5-ms/
Oh wow that’s crazy! I wonder why they just didn’t make them equal so they could be used interchangeably.
