There's nothing unique about maples. Every form of bullion loses a little value and becomes harder to sell if its banged up.
On the subject of gold (of which I have very little) a few years ago, I really wanted one of the 2016 1/4 oz gold standing liberties. The mint issued these at $485 which came to over $500 with shipping. I saw on (don't cringe) Craigslist someone offering one for $400...I was very tempted but didn't do it...uh that is until a couple of weeks later he was asking $380. Long story short, he had it with OGP and a receipt from the mint...now I have it!
I was super-annoyed that they did the diameter wrong on these pieces -- I wish they'd done them like the .999 Kennedy in 2014. But if I ever have an opportunity to buy one at not much over melt, I'll jump on it.
Every coin dealer has there own way of doing business, some are just more dishonest then others....LOL
No matter which end of the coin people were on, I think most would agree that this was an interesting thread. And I have no problems with any coin dealer as long as the coin is real if they selling and their funds clear if they buying.
Yes I have one as well! Beautiful gold coin for sure, here's my half dollar I wasn't able to get the dime though and they're way too pricey for me now, so I'll go without! You were extremely lucky to buy one at $380 for sure!
I managed to find a deal early on for the golden dime in SP 70. I bought two in a lot passing one off for $50 more at my local coin club Got a deal on the gold quarter shortly after I sold the other dime. Prices were climbing quick and could never pull the trigger on the half at $900. Today's prices are not any better. I too am on the sidelines watching the game.
In terms of price that true, but given that gold has gone up about $700 since the gold Kennedy was released in 2014 its numismatic premium for anything but a 70 is basically gone and its the metal itself holding the price right now
I am FLABBERGASTED on how you guys retain the knowledge how much it was and sold for and price, premiums has gone up since the inception. I have to write it down. You all have a great 4th !!
The Standing Quarter and Walking Half were pricey back then. Here's my Half purchase cost of $865 + 4.95 shipping I think the Quarter was from my old acct your US MINT account keeps the price for you if bought directly
I lucked into mine. Dealer I know happened to have all three come in and gave me first Crack. I bought quarter since always love the design, went home and called him telling him I would buy the other two. I think it was around $350 for quarter, $700 for half, and maybe $180 for dime. Something like that when gold was around $1300. Glad I bought all three.
