If what you're after is a really nice coin, can you REALLY tell the difference between a MS69 and a MS70? If what you're after is the number on the piece of paper, then by all means, buy the expensive one. Chaqu'un a son gout.

 

I have always contended that with modern bullion coins graded ms69 ms70 there if you had one of each slabbed and put tape over the labels most people without high magnification could not tell you the difference.
Some people are just happy paying extreme premiums believing they have the best.

 

I like the comparisons of cars to coins. My wife and I are retired state employees. We both get our state retirement and Social Security Income. That said, we have found that we can afford any car we like. We own 4 Toyotas that are serviced at the dealer to make sure that if a part needs to be replaced, the part will be manufactured for Toyotas. We bought our first Toyota in 2007. It is a Camry 6 Cylinder LE with 66,398 miles on it. It is stored in a garage in our home in town. My wife saw a black Camry SE when we were at the dealer having one of our vehicles serviced. As we sat in the waiting room, she decided that she wanted that car. It is a 2015 Toyota Camry SE. It had all the servicing papers in a binder (just like I do) and it had everything she wanted, so she bought it. It now has 50,150 miles. It, too, is house in the garage in town. I traded in my 2007 Toyota Tacoma, 6yl, TRD for a brand new 2015 Toyota Tacoma TRD with the extended cab. It now has 63,683 miles on it. When my wife's mother died in 2009, she inherited her mother's home in the country and a 2003 Toyota Corolla SE with 160,879 miles. The truck and Corolla are stored in the carport at her mother's home. We have people on a wait list to buy any of our vehicles. We also inherited 4 dogs and 2 cats from her mother. With our 3 dogs and now her 4 dogs and 2 cats, we were required to move to our "country home". The city only allows its citizens to have 3 pets.
We installed a fence around about an acre so they can run and fight. Thankfully most of them passed and we were without any cats and 3 dogs. However, we are back to 4 dogs and 1 cat. Our "country" home is down a dirt road and people love to drop off dogs in front of our home, so, someone left an 2 month old Australian Shepherd. So we have as many dogs as we do cars.
Enough said about that...
Each of us has their own idea of what type of coin collection they will have and it will change many times over the years. I inherited half of my father's collection, which started me down the coin collection route. As with cars, I do a lot of research to determine how I want to collect coins and which coins we like to collect. I have bought many coins from ebay and have only had one hiccup. I have also bought several coins from Mount Vernon Coins and have been pleasantly surprised with the coins I bought from them. My main collections are purchased from the U.S. Mint. I know there are many people that don't like to buy from the Mint, but that is their choice. I have only been disappointed a few times when coins I was hoping to buy, were sold out within a few minutes of issue. The fiasco the Mint had this past year with the 2021 Morgans and Peace Silver coins, was disappointing, however, I did get 3 out of the 5 Morgans from the Mint. I did get the 2021 Peace Silver Dollar from Mount Vernon. I did get the 2016 gold dime, Standing Liberty and Walking Liberty from the Mint. The only time I sent off coins to be graded, was when I bought my first gold coins from a dealer. He took them to a "Show and Tell" of coins and had them graded. One of them came back "Detailed-Obverse Scratched". The dealer offered to buy it back, but I declined.
Collecting and Purchasing other things are similar. It all depends how you approach them. Best of Luck to you all.

I think if your buying for the investment it’s
always more desirable to buy a 70, even though 69,s are in most cases allot less
expensive to buy you will get less when you
sale.

 

Wow. I have one of the halves in SP70 with this label to match the other two. Used a stimulus check on it about 2 years ago. Got it for half that price.
