This is very true about the people who make 1 post and then vaporize. But there is just an insane amount of members that never even had 1 post. I can imagine that many they thought they were into coins, were maybe going to post one day, but got out of coins before they had any comment or question to add. Also, they could possibly have signed up too see inside the couple of subforums you need to be a member to see, but how would they even know that? For the most part you can lurk here forever without joining, so I am still a bit confused about why Tens of Thousands have joined with zero posts. I'm sure there are many reasons I will never know, it's the sheer AMOUNT that is a curiosity to me. By the time I am done compiling, I think I will have collected around 30,000 accounts that never had ANY activity that is discernible.
Maybe bots or some other form of fake account that were never utilized (or had their accounts banned before they could make any malicious posts)?
The number might be, and probably is, a good bit bigger than that. I say that because quite a few years ago, and I don't even remember how many it's been now, Peter deleted roughly 50,000 registered members from the rolls. At the time the number of registered members that everybody can see on the bottom of the Index page under Forum Statistics - - that number was well over 80,000. But Peter decided to do a cleanup of that number so it would be more accurate, more representative of actual active forum membership. In other words, he was aware of the same kind of thing that you're talking about Matt - that there were a whole lot of registered members who'd never made a single post, and many others only rarely posted, and many others that hadn't even visited the site in almost forever. So this is what he did. He put together and sent out a mass email to every email address for every registered member - all 80 some thousand of them. Like I said, his goal was to determine actual active membership. So the email requested that active members, and that was defined as members who still visit the site and read what is posted, respond to the that email. There were somewhere over 35,000 responses from individual email addresses. So Peter changed the number of registered members that everybody sees to that 35,000 plus. So approximately 50k were removed from the rolls. So, if ya take that into account, that 30k number of yours would probably be a whole lot higher. But the truly interesting thing, to me anyways, is all those people who never register as members. But they still visit and read this site all the time. You can see those numbers down there too, near the Forum Statistics, where it says - Total: 339 (members: 51, guests: 247, robots: 41) - at every given moment. And the number of Guests varies from moment to moment but it's often 10 times the number of members currently visiting the site. So instead of there being 56,000 people who visit the site, it's somewhere in the neighborhood of up to 500,000. But like I said it varies, but if you watch it often enough you'll see what I'm talking about. All of those people are never taken into account - but they're out there.
Member Based Stats have been posted here. Please check it out. Lot's of members who didnt previously get a shout-out in my prior rounds of Thread Focused posts may be seen here. For example, people who post alot, but don't start new threads, are captured better by these new stats. Sorry it took longer than expected, banned/blocked/deleted users and/or restrictive privacy settings some users choose, make some of this a bit tricky. GO check your Notable Members Score! See how you compare vs the competition. Maybe it will motivate you to participate more. More to come in coming days/ weeks. Enjoy!
Don't feel bad. I didn't even make my own list of Top 150 Highest Scoring members and I think of myself as a pretty notable guy. I just missed the cutoff actually, at rank 156. I will re-double my efforts.
Yup it's extremely common. That said, and I have to wonder if you've even found this out, but a lot of those members who register and never make a single post - they do visit the forum on a regular basis, many a daily basis. You mentioned lurkers, well, they're registered lurkers. Then there's the lurkers who never register but visit the site on a regular basis, many daily. In the forum stats that all can see, those people show up as guests. And at any given moment there are 5-10 times as many guests as there are registered members currently visiting the site.

Most of you post a lot, but a few names up there have been visiting forever, but mostly don't post. I assume more of the listener type, quietly lurking and absorbing all the CT coin goodness, as opposed to the loud-feverishing-pecking-at-the-keyboard type from the notable members lists.
I've posted about this many, many times over the years, but given what you just posted, I'll post it again This is something any member can do, for themselves or any other member - see what your member number is. To do that, simply visit the member's Profile page. For example Matt, yours - https://www.cointalk.com/members/geekpryde.36248/ See that number at the end - that's your member number - 36,248. For comparison's sake, mine - https://www.cointalk.com/members/gdjmsp.112/ - 112. Peter's - https://www.cointalk.com/members/peter-t-davis.1/ - 1.
Yeah. 90 percent I have never texted with. What good is that. I have a bank account since the sixties. There’s a few that chat. The rest are non informational drips. Yeah
lol 307 here much like my first 6 years, I post very little anymore. I want to be more active in 2021
That depends on what table you're referring to. There are a great many tables posted on page 1 of this thread, and each table tells us something different.
Just found this. Thank you geekpryde for posting it. Read some old threads. Saw some people that brought back many smiles. Old Dan, Midas, BoneDigger, De Orc, Jody526, Satootoko, Conder 101. Those I learned from- National Dealer, TraderNick and those that had opposite but interesting discourse with Danr and Aidan. And saw Speedy, the most responsible and respectful young posters then. It was a bit surreal reading those posts. Guess I could find them in my profile now that I think about it. Another thing to look forward to. Thanks again
