Early Roman heavy bronze coinage:With an As like that getting my hands on it was of grave importance

    I only have struck coins of the Roman Republic and none of these cast chunkies. :(

    I keep looking but I'm just not seeing it;)
    I believe those types are often referred to as "pancake" formatum slabs.
    The ancients would simply dig a circular hole in the ground and fill it with the liquid metal and once it cooled down it would look like that massive chonker covering your hand.
    Word to the wise, don't take a bite out of that pancake!

    I believe this is Rome’s smallest denomination, but it is stamped.
