Will your friends give you spot price for them? Just an idea. Family might be another source.

Why sell to a dealer anyway? If it were my 2 ounces I would try to find a private buyer and get retail for them. If they were bought as an investment why cheat yourself?

Three reasons would be safety, privacy, and convenience. Many of us don't want to advertise the fact that we even own gold.

I found ebay even with the higher fee's is th ebest place for coins, but for bullion you should get fair price at any precious metals dealer.

    This is an interesting thread.

Coin collectors are always told - "Try selling one of your 'precious' coins to your dealer or at a coin show or on e-bay. You will learn a LOT". Selling is ALWAYS and CERTAINLY more difficult than buying.

As far as bullion is concerned and based on the posts in this thread, you should be looking for "exit strategies". Who are you selling to? What are the costs? What are the turn-around times.

And if everyone and their brother wants to sell, do you have a special arrangement with someone where you can get your money fast?

As a coin collecter, I'd recommend you try to sell a roll or 2 of silver dimes/quarters or a few ASE's or whatever. Test the waters. What is involved? How easy/hard is it? So you bought from Person X and they promised to buy back at xx% - well, do they offer you xx% or are you just waiting for Armaggedon before you ask?

Because when the stuff hits the fan, Fortune will smile on those who are prepared.

I would advise against selling to apmex unless you need the money quickly and badly. They will not give you top price. Just look at any of their 'Buy Back' prices posted throughout the site.

You are better selling on your own. I have done ok selling on EBay for decent prices as many others have.
