Things ended well. After reading some of his latter emails, I think that he is just new to buying gold on ebay and a bit paranoid about being ripped off which is understandable. Live and learn!

Definitely ending the transaction was the best thing to do in this case. It will probably let you sleep better being free of any anxiety over how this would play out if you went through with it. Also, if you intend to relist you might look into blocking that Buyer name... and there's always another buyer out there who will not require so much maintenance and will be a pleasure to do a transaction with. :thumb:

IMO, it is not wise to sell PM on eBay, because the buyer can screw the seller up in so many ways, thanks to the PayPal buyer protection policy. But it is much better to be a PM buyer on eBay.

I agree to a certain extent. Folks like the buy above play with sellers... rewrite the auction deal after the fact, and are quick to run to paypal if the seller doesn't bend to their whims.

When I sell nowadays, I list that any buy with less than a certain amount of feedbacks must contact first, or the bid will be cancelled. I haven't had a problem in a long time, but its CYA on ebay for sure.

Why not just sell to a dealer and bypass the problems with eBay? If you stick with eBay, this buyer is not the only buyer in the world. Reject him and sell to someone else.

Well.. the problem for some of us is that there is only one dealer within driving distance... and they dont buy at the same prices. Much lower. They are there to make a profit & pay the bills, and not to bid against others to get your coin/bar for their collection.

I am not suggesting dealers are crooked... I am jsut saying they cannot possibly buy your stuff at a premium in your favor, and still keep their doors open. Ebay is the easiest and biggest place to go to sell at a premium.

Or maybe he just saw that report on German TV about the 500 gram tungsten bar found at the Heraeus Foundry and panicked:yawn:. Part of the video is posted over on zero hedge. Glad everything worked out for you.

After ebay's seller's fees and listing charges are added to the equation, you will probably find that you will get more money from an honest dealer paying 85%-95% intrinsic, as well as less hassle from having to deal with a website which is biased toward buyers rather than sellers...

Agreed, but it also depends on what you are selling. If you study buying trends.. prices.. whats hot with buyers.. you will find that some items get a very nice premium that dealers cannot offer. Those are the items I would sell on ebay.

A smart buyer on ebay wouldn't touch those items, due the the inflated prices... but instead scour the web looking for a dealer (or local dealer) to pay a much lower cost. Many buyers dont bother though... they find it on ebay, and fight over it.

A good seller can watch for this, and list those frenzy items. It does work, and the profit is good.

I would insist on payment first and no returns if removed from packaging. My gut tells me to not trust this person, primarily because of how he writes. No capitalization, incomplete sentences, accusatory and overly defensive language. I am old fashioned in that I expect people to take care in how they communicate. If someone were speaking to me in this manner, I would say, "no thanks".

How odd, but then again there are so many scammers and such on ebay these days it is really hard to complete an honest transaction.

I agree. I stopped using Ebay several years ago. I don't miss it.

You just have to find the good folks to deal with... they're there. Fair prices.. free shipping for the most part... good service, and as advertised goods. Its a buying tool like any other.. get the best out of it, and use all your sources for what they are best at.

EXACTLY. NEVER send bullion (money) without full & cleared payment through Paypal and to a confirmed address. No PO boxes.

Always, NO RETURNS with bullion. It's too easy to switch out for a fake. So, why bother with the possible troubles.

I used to work at PayPal in one of their fraud divisions. I would comfortably say the number of illegitimate/scam buyers is almost on par with the number of sellers. Some of them are quite sophisticated and know the loopholes to get their merchandise AND their money back.

So you need to watch out for yourself. Read the seller protection policy on their site, follow it to the letter, and do NOT send merchandise before the payment clears. Me personally, I also wouldn't allow returns under any circumstances and would make that abundantly clear in the auction description.

Hell, you're alot nicer than me. I'd say of course it's real and I don't want your business so cancel your echeck and get on down the ramp. And then he would be blocked from my sales. I'm just saying, he is ridiculous!!

Crap so if you remove the bullion from the assay card ur screwed? I have a 1/4 tr oz Scotia Mocotia assayed .9999 fine round and i slit the card via razor and jimmied out the coin just to see how dense it felt... I guess this means I'm sending it to the jewler to made into a 12g 23k Au/Palladium ring along with the pamp suisse 2.5g bar. Hell might as well use my 1g platinum bar to make it Au/Pt 23ct.... should be a nice ring tho!

I suppose i could re-laminate the razor cut but that would be dishonest :( . I thought as long as you had the card it's still good, any scale will tell you the thing is gold and the color is a giveaway too, along with the perfect mirror polish (proof-like) , noticably less dense than Pt. but way more dense than lead.... the only metal i can see matching it is Uranium... which is prob worth more anyway?
