It depends on how one defines active. We have many members who visit the forum and read the posts every single day - but rarely post themselves. We have a few members who have been members for 15 years or longer and still have less than a hundred posts. And like I mentioned above there are up to ten times as many Guests visiting the forum as there are members at any given moment and that number hasn't changed much in years. Those 40,000 members that were removed from the members list that I mentioned above - if memory serves that was about 8 years ago. And when they were removed the number of listed members dropped from around 75,000 or so to somewhere around 33 to 35, 000. So in that 8 years the number of members has roughly doubled.
Again, definitions come into play. But you're basic thinking is correct, there is a core group that post far more often than others. Anyone can look at this page - https://www.cointalk.com/members/ - it's found at the top of every page in the dark blue bar - Members. - and it shows those who post the most. Click on their avatars and you can see how long they've been members - and thus how fast, or slow, they accumulated that many posts. Take yourself for example potty dollar, you've been a member for a bit over a year, and you've already made almost 10,000 posts. But we judge activity by one's visits to the forum - not by how many posts you've made. And if you look at any member's Profile page, in the url for their Profile page you will see a number at the end of the url - that is their member number. For example on mine you will see this - https://www.cointalk.com/members/gdjmsp.112/ So I was the 112th person to register on CT - and that was over 19 years ago. CT was 2 months old then. One of our newest members, his member number is 132,102. That's how many have registered at CT since day one back in Sept. of 2002.
I have been retired for about 18 years (don't try to count to find my age. I will be 74 next month.) The first thing that I do (After I feed my 6 dogs, do my daily chores, etc.) I go to my office and read my email and sign on to Coin Talk. I don't know how long that has been, but I think I joined a couple of years ago. I find that I have a difficult time in the AM if I don't read Coin Talk. I do that before I answer my kid's emails. It's great fun, isn't it?
I've noticed a few times someone posting not as a new member, but whose name I don't recognize and see that they have been a member 5+ years and only have about 50 or so posts...I think @SensibleSal66 had that his first day sorry Sal, just teasing.
Indeed. Up until recently, I was below a thousand posts and have been on this forum for over 15 years. I guess I just don't talk that much. Also, I've taken a few hiatuses throughout the years but keep comin' back!
Oh that's still young. Anything before Doug when the Woolly Mammoths were roaming the Earth is still young.
Boy - this list just keeps on getting longer ! Where am I ever gonna find the time "to get" all these people ????? Oh well, if nothing else it'll serve as an example that horses are not immune
Uh oh, he noticed it. I was hoping he was napping and wouldn't notice it. I guess I handicapped that hunch wrong.
