It can be helpful to our Secret Saturn for us to post a general overview of what we like to collect, including anything more specific we are focusing on right now, just in case they don’t know or need a refresher. For example, my general collecting areas are Ancient Greek, Roman Imperial (especially late Roman-the later the better!), early Germanic (Ostrogoth, Vandal, etc.), Byzantine, and early Islamic, and right now I have my attention towards Ptolemaic and early Byzantine (Justinian I in particular).

Of course, if you want to have your Saturn do their own research, that is fine as well :)

I am in! A year ago the Saturnalia package I received was the main attractor (for me) site of our Christmas tree, so:

Thanks a lot and feel free to use it @TIF. If wanting higher resolution version, will try to dig up the ppt file I put those together last year, or better, you can get the high-res pics of Io and Saturn from NASA on-line galleries, all in public domain.

I think it may have to do with the fact that you are a "new" member (even though your profile is several years old) and only have 3 posts.

I think you have to have 50 posts or something to be able to send PMs. At any rate, I have about 25 members signed up so far and I'll begin handing out assignments tomorrow.

Last year I made a choice of a Saturnalia gift before I knew who the recipient was & this year I'm doing the same thing ;). In other words, I'm not tailoring the gift to what the recipient collects, instead it may be something of little interest to that collector. That being the case, I wouldn't be the least bit offended if the recipient of my gift decides to sell it or trade it to someone else for something he likes better. Sometimes receiving a gift that doesn't fit in your collection can open new vistas worth exploring .

I have several potential gifts in my trays. Depending on who my giftee will be/what I know from them, I can choose what I feel to be the most relevant for them...

...and allow myself to make mistakes (after all, the gesture and the intention are what counts the most, aren't they ?) :)
