I was looking at a couple 2021 ASE type 2 Designer Set Reverse proofs and came across a silver eagle Reverse that is extremely detailed. Almost to the point of being similar to the cheerios sacagewea dollar. Attached is a type 2 that looks really detailed compared to another 2021 ASE designer set Reverse proof. Thoughts?
This automatically caught my eye when I put them side by side. The very detailed coin reminds me of the sacagewea cheerios dollar which fetches a premium, where the details in the feathers were really noticeable.
Both coins are beautiful, but I do see the finer details on the one in question. As @hotwheelsearl stated, possibly a newer die. Side by side it becomes very apparent why one could receive a PF70 vs PF69. Stand alone they both look like they could be PF70's. I'd be submitting the 'really detailed reverse' for grading if the Obv looks as good as the Rev. Nice score.
That's a different issue though. It was due to a design change. Not a sharper strike as in the coin in question. http://www.smalldollars.com/dollar/page20c.html
Thats understood. What paddy questioned was the SAC that you referred to. The SAC had a design change.
Well we have no explanation yet as to why this eagle is more defined than the other. I am more thinking that it is a well defined die, than strike issues.
Yes their both mine. When I put them side by side they were immediately noticeable with the naked eye.
I understand. Yeah, I got them in the mail when I got home from work late and noticed them in the dark and my eyes aren't that great either. I went into the house to inspect them and noticed them even more in the light.
Those photos show more of a cameo die contrast, That means that this is more a die state and strike issue than die details.
Could be NGC made an error and should have graded the less detailed one as a PR69. New coin and not much information yet, maybe it's a variety or error of some kind. You can check with Coneca, could be they've heard something. https://conecaonline.org/
