Any u guys have info or link to check how much silver will be used in the new technologies?
i read that hybrid cars and new electric cars need silver in their battery systems
solar panels use silver as great conductor of electricity
New electric cars will use a lot batteries
but how much silver will be needed in these new industries?

That's a good question, I'm not sure anyone can really quantify how much silver is used in those technologies. You're talking about different companies with their own specific designs.

That's like asking how much silver is used on a typical computer motherboard. There are hundreds of motherboards out there so who knows..?

The good thing that we can count on is confidence in silver being apart of current and new technologies.

Its hard to find info on how mauch silver will be used
Toyota plans for one million hybrid cars next year 2011 and china estimates 3-4 million hybrid cars
    plus usa n india
    say 5 million cars
    one gram each
5 million grams of silver extra compared to same amount present day cars
    5000 kilos silver
is that alot or not ?
    no idea

    Howdy,

Try this website and check out the pull down menu about silver uses.

    http://www.silverinstitute.org/silver_uses.php

From what I can see batteries and medical are a couple of the most exciting and I can't imagine that the Noble Sisters getting new ETFs and going nuts hurts.

Silver is the best electrical conductor there is - better than copper or gold. They use gold for some connectors because it won't corrode.

For medical, silver being used as a bactericide or biocide is very interesting.

    take care,

Do you have a source for that fact? I read that silver was the best conductor probably twenty years ago, and everyone has been correcting me ever since. Thank you for your help.

I can ask my friend who's an EE on this. He would know.

I too thought gold was the best conductor on the planet....I wonder if maybe there are length limitations or voltage variables that can make someone pick one over the other.....

Silver is the best conductor. Here's some evidence:

http://www.elec-toolbox.com/theory.htm ("Silver is the best natural conductor of electricity, followed by copper, gold, and aluminum.")

http://www.nology.com/silver.html ("Silver is the best electrical and thermal conductor of any metal...")

Cost/benefit says being the best doesn't always make it the best choice.

Yep--That's why most stuff uses copper or aluminum--cheaper.
Space technology uses a lot of gold because of its corrosive resistance to almost everything.

The automotive industry uses gold in Air Bag systems for this same reason. Many instructors in classes on Air Bags claimed it was because gold is the best conductor, which I always questioned. Nice to see I knew more than the teacher for at least once!:)
Aluminum, on the other hand is a terrible conductor, and even worse at corrosion resistance. Whenever you see an old farm house in flames, suspect the aluminum wiring they used to use. Or if you see a late 70s GM car with no tail lights, same problem.

Guys, The Computer / Electronic industry uses Sooooo Much Gold!
It is all free out there in junk computer part..( The melt down can be rough.. )
As for Silver .. There is a bunch on here too.. with Palladium and several other &&& Metals.. With growth of China and India.. I see both Silver and Gold being in demand.

Actualy diamonds are the best conductor.
there are companies working right now to build sheets of synthetic diamonds so they can sell them for industrial uses.

Meissner effect is best found in tin and soda cans.
    Nobody wants to accept this.

Silver & gold are full shelled element wanna bez and are low priority for Super Conductor developement.

Pretty and gene passing possibilities (as is really pretty carbon Diamond stuff)
will be less useful and lo tech in 10 yrs......if we make it past the 1012 deadlines some like.

That is a beautiful site to see.....gold and computer parts....why did I throw out all my old junk PC's!!!

I know.. I ran ads on CL for Junk Part / electronics /Anything..
My Wife nearly killed me.. I had so many boxes of this stuff.. I would sell it in bulk to a guy in Montana who would refine it down.. he did great.. Several .oz of .999 Gold + other metals for about 1500.00 from me.. Not sure what it cost him to refine..
I got crazy old stuff.. Cell Phones that can never work again.. I would sell to collectors fr hundreds.. Nutty.. Turn the $$ around and buy coins.. It just was such a mess..
Those pictures you see were a LOT i sold on Ebay.. it went for several hundred if I remember.. It cost me nothing but time..

wow those were your pictures! LOL...

I thought that were just stock pictures from somewhere...

I am not throwing anything out anymore....I need to find a place that will melt this stuff down.....

DANGEROUS!! Sell The Scrap.. to people who KNOW what they are doing..
It Gives off All kinds of DEADLY gases as You burn off the PCB Boards I guess..
India Does this burning in Pits outside and just Burn it.. It puts off clouds of Death..
But Hey.. If you KNOW what your doing .. Its like Modern Gold Panning

The LARGER CPU's I am told have 1/10th .oz each..
Some of the Chips from the 70's and 80's are worth 100.00's to CHIP collectors..

I am not doing this anymore .. so to all.. HAVE FUN.. Be Careful.

    Thanks, borgovan,

This is pretty much the extent of my knowledge. Up until last year I had always assumed that gold was a better conductor but read that it wasn't but was great for its anticorrosiveness.

As for justafarmer, he said the c/b often outweights what is best and that's the nut.

They use copper because it's cheaper than silver and it probably is close enough conducting that the added expense is not worth the additional expense.

As for gold, notice how it's always the plugs that are gold.
