Felt like showing off, anyone else up for it? Feel free to post a pic?!! This gold piece is a bit ho hum as far as gold coins go, I mean it's nothing special and it wasn't a huge seller or anything, but it's a gold 1/4 ounce and I like it. The obverse design features a close view of the face and crown of the statue of Liberty. Inscriptions include the date “1986” above and the word “Liberty” to the left of the image. On the reverse is a depiction of a bald eagle in flight. Around the outer circumference of the coin are inscriptions “United States of America” and the denomination “Five Dollars” interrupted by groups of six and seven stars. An inner circumferential arrangement includes additional inscriptions “E Pluribus Unum” and “In God We Trust”. The designs for the coin were by Elizabeth Jones, the Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, with part of the initial modeling for the reverse credited to Philip Fowler.
mpcusa in 3. 2.1... Sorry couldn't resist. I have 3 pieces to put away in the cellar, I'll snap a picture of them before they go to bed. Hold my spot.
Is yours a Breen Gillio gold token?? Some of them are worth big money! Here's a couple of mine, top one is 11k and it's a BG-767. The bottom one is 20k in a 14k bezel, I bought it that way! Mine are so small, hard to get good pics! Nice looking gold coins up there, especially that 1995 Ultra Cameo! https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/category/california-fractional-gold-1852-1882/1659
These were issued as a part of the 1967 commemorative set for the 100th anniversary of the Confederation of Canada. They sold for about $35 each then. They were quite popular with collectors in the USA at the time - even though it was a no no to own such things.
I'm not that much into gold, but I noticed a few postings of California fractionals and those *DO* interest me. My own collection has a mere denomination 'set' (dollar, half, and pinch). My only requirement was that each piece be a piece of actual circulating money as found in the recoveries from the 1857 sinking of the SS Central America, not a later jeweler's token. So here is my dollar (1854), half (1853), and pinch (1855).
Love those California fractional tokens and especially that 1924 Saint Gaudens double eagle as I have one as well. It's locked up safely right now but here's another one of my favorite gold coins!
