Strange 1865 3 Cent Nickel CU-3c(N)-1865-07

    There's a lot more going on here than just the cud. Maybe it's because it's a late die state. The cracks, flow lines and rim cuds are nothing like I've seen. It doesn't look like PMD to me.

    So, that is solder and not rim cuds? They sure look like they are part of the coin.

    Solder remaining on a coin can strongly resemble a cud.

    Looks like a broadstrike, with damaged edges (not rim cuds and I don't see anything I think is solder). And it does appear to be the variety shown in Fred's image with the cud over the T. It is in a much later die stage though with much more extensive die cracking.

    I don't see how you're missing this. From 10-1 and from 6-8 extensive text book mount removal marks. You can clearly see the direction of the cut. I have seen so many coins with this appearance. What looks like a broadstrike is the rim being cut down. Not saying there wasn't originally a cud. I agree there was, but that is unrelated to the present condition.
