Anyone who hasn't already. Go to CNN and look at the satelite pictures of Port au Prince. Its about the only way to take in the magnitude of the situation without being there.

Food for the poor is a charity that has a large presence in Haiti, I talked to my wife after work tonight and we will send them a nice donation this week.

Poverty is a terrible thing, wether it is a lack of food shelter and clothing, or a lack of love compassion and humanity

It's not just the U.S. who is sending aid.The Swiss financial institution I work for is matching contributions by employees up to a total of $500,000. This means if employees contribute a total of $500,000 (minimum donation is $50 per employee), the company will also contribute $500,000 for a grand total of $1,000,000. There are many other companies and organizations who are doing similar things.

I think the general consenous here is a positive one, send them he assitance. That's the American way. My gosh we buy coins, talk about coins and take it for granted. Think how far some of the money we spend on coins would go down there. This is a nation that needs building, rather than the other "nation building" arguments going on else where in the world. My hat is off to our response. It's ashame though the abuse and corruption that happens with all this aid, but there is not much you can do about some of it.

I don't think it will have any material impact on bullion prices.

First, it will not just be our government helping, but many of us as private citizens.

Second, it will not just be the United States helping, although I expect that we will be leading the way.

Third, I would be surprised if the amount of money spent will be anything near the magnitude of the TARP fund.

Gorgio11--- It's not that I don't understand and feel for those people and the position they are in,BUT they have done nothing to alleviate that situation before, why would they start now? We have hungry and homeless right here on our soil, yet we do nothing to help our own. All our aid programs are overrun by illegal immigrants and others who come from countries like haiti and other third world countries then sit back and live on welfare. Now I'm not the hard azz I pretend to be,and help out my share,I just think we need to concentrate some efforts right here at home before worrying about everyone else first,a good majority of our military familys live below poverty levels, while someone from that immediate family is somewhere fighting for our country,or giving aid to others.

They are looking to create refugee camps in Florida. I don't know how many they will be bringing over. But once here, I don't think they will leave. Not that I want to kick them out or anything but politically it will be very difficult to do so.

I haven't heard of any other countries doing this. Will our "compassion" doom us at the end? Or will it make us all prosper?

I did not take it like that at all...

I took it like it was assumed that we were (we are) so whats the impact going to be on the Dollar and on PMs...

It is hard to tell a persons intent though sometimes via text...

    Then do it...

I gave at my church, which is collecting money and supplies to send... I think they might be sending a group of folks down to help out too...

I still don't think Should or should not is the question he was asking, but what are the implications too the $ and the PMs....

    help

As a GOD fearing man my heart goes out to all thoughs in need ! This country pours money into other places while our own ppl suffer here, these other goverments take our $ then talk ill of the greedy americans. How many countrys were there on 9/11? How many want to stand up against the evil in this world at least in voice? The ppl in haiti need our help and we should be there for them but they should be told (like all others) that we exspect them to stand at our side on our hour of need as well!

    Article

There was an article yesterday in the Wall Street Journal cautioning that there are so many corrupt interests that will seek to victimize the Haiti people to gain foreign aid:

I'm sure most of us have been generous in giving to charity and seeking to practice the Golden Rule in other ways. You never know whether giving will be productive for sure. I hope that the government that is set in place at this time will do the right thing.
