2046.00 for a 20$ liberty head gold coin (off great collections auction, it is in ms-62,CAC, and on the same auction also bought a 5.00 gold piece in ms-62 as well for 748.00....i got a little carried away, and i think i might of thought was bidding on a 10.00 gold coin because it said half eagle, and for an insane moment i thought full eagles were the 20.00 coin, lol being inept at gold coins..and of course the hefty 12% buying fee....live and learn, numismatically they are ok, but as for spot price, not so much as gold has dropped 175 since then...
Wow. That coin is so different. I can see your excitement. Hope you slept with it under your pillow before you set it free. I am impressed.
also, was bidding on over 20k worth of coins at the time, mostly gold, about 175 lots total...figured if i shotgunned my bidding, might get something on the fly, lol
Most ever I spent on a coin? Shoot, I don't kiss and tell. Besides.....the wife is looking over my shoulder.
$2,300, in 2014. That was the only time I have ever spent four figures on a coin. Considering I sold it for $2K in 2018, thereby taking a $300 loss, I should be gnashing my teeth about that, but no. It went to a good cause. I do think I'll remain down in two- and three-figure territory where I belong, from here on out. On my salary, I have no business buying four-figure coins.
$6,000 for a raw 1794 S-61 large cent, AU-58 sharpness net VF-20 for some problems. Still 12th finest known. If the dealer still has it I may top that in a couple weeks. A 1793 S-9 wreath cent VF 20 details net F-12 $7,000. I some respects I hope he still has it, in some respects I hope he sold it at ANA.
I don't think i posted it in this thread yet, so here goes. Went into the 4th figure for the first time with this one. And my wife even knows exactly how much it cost!
