Thanks I'll take a look. You guys all seem to have local shops around you! I have none! Actually I have just one, and his prices are OUTRAGES. EDIT: Ok, just checked out his prices for AGE's uncirc. Mintproducts = $1239.30 APMEX = $1183.95 Am I reading his site wrong? It looks like his prices are a lot higher than APMEX?
I may be interested in that idea. Don't know how to do it but I'd love to save some money on a roll. I'm too leery about the price of silver to purchase from ebay or ampex or monex or one of the other sellers, but if I could get some as close to spot as possible I'd risk it. I would be interested in hearing more about this possibility.
I hear what both you guys are saying. I'm only about nine months into collecting and got burned a few times on ebay. I've learned a little since then though. The local coin shop sells me whatever he has that I want at the greysheet asked price or better. Most times it's at the Greysheet ask, but even with that I won't buy some items at greysheet ask. I've learned that I can 'steal' some things at 'feebay' if I time it right. I must admit that though that it is always much btter to buy it from my local guy because I can go down and look at it and know exactly what I am getting.
9 months? I've only been at this for 5 months now. It's quite fun really. Would have loved to began this years ago. I look at it as a hobby, somewhat calculated hobby. It's a little financially risky but that's what makes it a little fun. Have you tried APMEX? I know I sound like a walking ad for them, but I've really liked their service so far.
I've been to the site and have an account set up, but never purchased anything. The price of shipping on any of the coins that they have put them over what I pay here. When I started I was buying from different shops over the web but the guy I have here beats them. (Unless I can get something waay underpriced on ebay.)
I'm sorry, I guess it just feels like nine months. I acquired 2 2004 proof eagles in July and that was my introduction. (a few thousand later I might add.)
Not bad, I think AGE's were still under $1,000 in July....I look at anything under $1K a good deal now. ha!
I cannot find them any more at that price. I saw them listed here locally at $19.50 in September but spot was also lower then.
The only true way to ship Bullion through USPS insured... is Registered Mail. (Barring outside insurance coverage specifically purchased for this purpose... which I can guess... most do not have and is quite costly for those who do.) So, for example, using this order level... $4.95 Small Flat Rate Box (love those things) + $13.10 registered mail fee = $18.05 in cost for the Shipper plus packing and "pita" factor for packing and shipping a registered mail package. So, Apmex charging $19.95 for this order... really not that unreasonable. I am pretty sure every package I have ever gotten from Apmex has been sent Registered Mail and their site seems to indicate that is the standard. I looked back at my order history and I only have one order close to this low level... not positive, but pretty sure it was Registered Mail in a bigger box... which means it cost more than $19.95! Even if I am wrong on that one and someone thinks they shouldn't collect $1.90 in """profit""", I have a box sitting here that cost $26.75 for them to ship (it is right on the label) for a $3500 order and they charged me $24.95 ... what a rip-off ... to them! Sorry to offer my "biased" opinion once again! LOL Shipping through MintProducts.com ... $7.95, but I couldn't find info about insurance on their site... maybe they are "self insuring". That means they may be getting Signature & Delivery Confirmation and hoping for the best. Will they cover it if something happens... ask them. It really comes down to comfort level with your bullion dealer and their way of doing things. For my money, in this case, pay the $12 extra and lower cost for the ASEs and sleep good at night knowing you won't have any hassles. Thanks, Michael PS Yes, you can ship bullion "regular insured", but it is right in the USPS terms... not covered... someone is going to have to lie to the USPS to make that claim or hope the local employees allow it on a fluke. Last I checked... Mail and Insurance Fraud... taken pretty seriously!
How is it possible that you can preorder 2010 silver eagles through third parties yet nothing is showing up on the U.S Mint website (I love eagles and looking forward to buying this years ...very important year for my wife and I)
too high? I dont think $21.71 is to high for 2010 eagles. You can always buy earlier years that were minted???? They are still silver? they still eagles? In 5yrs $21.71 will look like a steal!
Because the bullion eagles are sold strictly through the Mint's authorized purchaser's program and not from their website. Only the collectible eagles (W mint mark proof and unc.) are sold via the Mint's site.
Since 1986 I been buying one roll for my bullion Ira,this will be one of the highest price roll to date! http://www.monex.com/why/silver_market.html?gclid=CJbys9jKjZ8CFQOdnAodTH9RJw
one of those great tv coin shows(sarcasm) had these things going for $599:rolling: a roll all the way up to 12,499.00:bigeyes: for a monster box. i plan on getting some from another source but i will wait till they are actually released and hopefully the price is a little bit more managable. i would probably only get a roll as i have been selling a lot of my silver off the last few months to have some extra money for the holidays and bills:crying:
Well, because those dealers know the mint will be releasing them (unless the world explodes) and the way the US Mint program works is all "American Eagle Bullion Coins" are distributed directly to authorized dealers. ( As opposed to "Uncirculated" and "Proof"... which the US Mint does sell directly. http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/?action=american_eagles ) Then, those dealers sell down to other dealers who are not authorized for direct purchase, but buy in larger amounts to get the best price. Could be only a monster box at a time... reselling by the tube and retaining a small profit. Because the dealers know they will have access, some are willing to take pre-orders. It all depends on what kind of price they think they are going to be able to lock in at, if they have locked in, and whether they want to take the risk. Some have been at this for years and have their contacts and supply line and pricing arrangement well in place, so there are no worries. I just called a major local US Mint distributor (Gold and Silver) and found out this info... They are taking pre-orders. Cost for dealers $2.50 over spot. (I think at time of delivery.) Retail price for 2010 & 2009 is $22 each for 1 or 20. ($4.27 over current spot of $17.83... they always have a "flat rate" on Brand New.) They expect a shipment in the 21st. Also, they have about 50 circulated (handled) Silver Eagles in the case right now for $1 over spot. (No kidding!) Thanks, Michael
