Anyone ever have problems with AMPEX?

APMEX is top-notch. I have spent thousands with them... and they sent me a nice tub of popcorn. LOL (Oh yeah, silver and gold too.) Their shipping is fast and the charges aren't bad at all unless you are doing smaller orders.

I can only remember one time I was dissatisfied with the silver bullion I received... it was Brand New, but the back edges were badly shaped. I think this had more to do with the mint that made them than APMEX, but they looked "ground" with rounded edges... to be clear, they were not ground down... they weighed right on or near 10 TOz, but I had several apprehensive buyers who contacted me after receiving their product.

Honestly, I would have sent them back if possible, but they had already been sold on, so I could not delay in shipping them out. Maybe APMEX was in the same spot when they sent them to me! LOL Generally, the condition of generic doesn't or shouldn't matter price wise, but it really depends on who you are selling to and for what purpose.

Most companies are not going to do anything on the basis of a phone call, as far as actually shipping the product without payment up front, unless you have an established account history and business relationship. (They would be crazy to in this business.) They will be glad to lock in orders, but otherwise... it's just like the McDonald's drive thru... put the cash in their hand before you get your product!

It really depends on your Bank, but I can call my Credit Union to send Bank Wires from home. All I had to do was provide them the info for each recipient the first time in person and then reference them by name on future calls. (They retained all the info in a file. Might have to talk to a "Personal Banker".)

There are plenty of bullion dealers that take Credit Cards, but expect it to be built into the price somehow... whether in premium or a jacked up shipping charge. It is costing them at least 2 to 3% to process that transaction and that cuts into an already small margin. (Not to mention the hassles that occur when the processor finds out they are selling coins and/or bullion... it is sometimes considered a high risk business.)

I am sure plenty of people purchase bullion with CCs and then pay off the bill right away simply to get points, rewards, or cash back. I know of a major bullion dealer that used his credit cards all the time to buy large amounts of bullion just to get rewards or whatever... his CC company wasn't too happy about it!

    Thanks,
    Michael

I myself have done 10s of thousands of $ worth of both buys and sells with APMEX. I have NEVER been disappointed in any of my transactions with that company!. Yes, I too find their shipping charges high but on the other hand I have never been disappointed with the product I received from them. All the times I have sold to them went smooth!. They respond quick acknowledging they received the product you ship them, They send a check for payment as promised and FAST!. So far all their checks have been good. They do take returns without problem but I have read in other forums that if you return items you bought from them on a "repeated" bases they have been known to close your account. I have never had to return any items I got from them so I cant verify this return problem. All and all I have never been disappointed!

The company I was referring to is a member dealer of coinnet. They have rigorous screening of members, probably the highest ethical standards of a coin dealer organization. It was not NN.

Trust is a hard word these days.

Scotto I collect what I like

I have been buying from APMEX for years and recently bought 20 PGCS certified BU ASEs in a "sealed Crystal" container. Well, when I signed for the package it was clearly going to be a problem. When I open the package, the plastic container was badly cracked and shards of plastic throughout the inside.

I called APMEX, they gave me a return ID number, I sent it back and within 2 weeks I received in a larger box what I paid for plus the shipping fee I incurred to return the merchandise.

They stand by what they sell.:eek:hya: I will continue to buy from them.

    a little of both

If you are buying bullion for investment, it's best to start out having some rounds or eagles it's just a matter of opinion. Then move into 10 OZ, 100 OZ bars. It depends on how much money you have. If you have under $5000.00 Buy all rounds or eagles, if you buy rounds you will get more silver for your money. If you have over $5000.00 Buy $5000.00 worth of rounds and the rest in 10 OZ bars up to $30,000. Then there is always the question of room. This is just my opinion it has worked well for others as well. Just depends how much money and room you have.

My only gripe for them is shipping charges. For Christmas my GF bought me a slabbed quarter eagle. The cost of the coin was around $600, but shipping cost her $36!!!! To me that is just outrageous. Now for low margin bullion transactions, I understand the CC "juice" - but this was a numismatic purchase, not bullion.
