Anyone have any coins of Lucilla? (Daughter of M. Aurelius)

I wasn’t quite referring to an entire set.

But I do know that when I first began I had a plan to get Ah aureus of each of the 5 Good Emperors.

Yes it comes with a hefty price tag but it’s not totally unrealistic for a normal person on a normal income to collect 5 different aureii.

I have noticed that the Byzantine gold solidii tend to be much cheaper than the older Roman aureus.

I used to have a whole set of her reverses but parted with most.

An incorrect die axis for the type may indicate a forgery, though modern forgers are not stupid and most modern fakes are produced with the correct die axis for the type. When a new hoard of coins appears with a consistent die axis, but is of a type struck with lose dies (without a normal set die axis), there is a possibility the hoard may be fake.

This coin issued when Lucilla, daughter of Marcus Aurelius, was in her late teens, by which time she was already ~5 years married to Lucius Verus, son of Aelius Caesar who was adopted by Antoninus Pius, along with Marcus Aurelius who was related to Hadrian, Trajan and Hadrian's wife Sabina - the Antonine family tree is a complicated network extending from Marcia and Trajan's Father (brother-in-law to Titus).

I have begun a collection of Roman Empress' sestertius. Lucilla is one of the more plentiful of these.

Like many noble women she had much unhappiness in her life and eventually little brother Commodus arranged a IMG_1994Lucilla, obv..jpg IMG_1993Lucilla rev..jpg one way trip across the River Styx. Most of her coins were issued before Commodus came to power. She was about 16 years old when this coin was issued. it is variously described as a dupondius or an as.

I don't have a large number if Imperial coins but this denarius of Lucilla really spoke to me :). The portrait is charming and reminds me of an old china-head doll in my grandmother's collection. The reverse is an interesting personification and the devices are artistically rendered.

The doll pictured is not my grandmother's but she had a few like it. Never really cared for dolls myself but I can relate to having a collecting hobby.

Thanks, @Spaniard :). I participated in a few auctions recently and have some coins to show, or will soon. Went a little wild in the last Leu, lol. Picked up a couple in the last NAC too. Looking for my camera now and will try to post them later today.

    Wow nice denarius!

I had no idea there were so many coins with her portrait minted.

Apparently she was a beautiful woman like her mother Faustina.

131 different imperial coins if you include medallions. If you include Roman provincials, add 133 more.
