I found this Canadian Dime in my stash that has die chips or or cracks on almost all the letters close to the rim and many others. Just about everything has an anomaly of some kind. I had trouble with my lighting. Need to get something different.
"Weird" is the word that popped into my mind, too. You were just quicker with it. But that's sure a weird one.
Other than the die having an energetic disassembly, is there anything in the process that could cause that?
Look what I just found. Evidently they had issues with these... https://www.cointalk.com/threads/2001-p-canadian-dime-mint-error.336308/ https://www.cointalk.com/threads/2001-canadian-queen-elizabeth-ii-dime.239635/
In one of those attachments it was mentioned that finding a defect free coin would be like finding a four leaf clover. Well, I guess I found a four leaf clover. I have one that is nearly defect free.
Without pictures it doesn't exist. Lol. Those two CT threads I linked are of course the tip of the iceberg. I think the takeaway is, nobody cares. They've known about this too long. To me this looks like striking abnormalities, some things were very loose. Happened either at the actual striking stage, or even the hubbing stage. These are no flukes, one after the other turning up. That doesn't happen without poor quality control all the way around. Just too consistent out of that mint that year to be otherwise, I'd think.
It is difficult to pick up a Canadian without some sort of a defect. I certainly was jesting about the one that is defect free. I do have one that is close.
