This statement is wrong on so many levels. The IRS doesn't require you to pay tax on a gain or deduct a loss until an investment is sold. But the gain or loss exists all the same and folks just feel more comfortable fooling themselves when they make a mistake they don't want to own-up to.

    Gold $1,130.40/oz. [LOW $1,122 – HIGH $1,131.30]

    Silver $17.40/oz. [LOW $17.22 – HIGH $17.40]

    Platinum $1,421/oz. [LOW $1408 – HIGH $1425]

    Palladium $369/oz. [LOW $361 – HIGH $369]

Using that logic my gain/loss changes every second the market is open. I may go manic! While I understand your point, the gain/loss is only material to me (as a small investor) when I convert the asset back to US$ and then I look at it in REAL terms. I don't have mark-to-market concerns since I am not pledging those assets as collateral.

I would also point to the fact that Fund Managers sell their assets near year-end to include their gain/loss in their current year performance.

CNBC guest says gold to $1500 in 3 years. Short term flat due to better economic news coming out out of US

The only thing that sucks about gold going down is that the premium is still high $110 over spot from APMEX.

Will those higher premiums drop off after the holiday season if PMs stay level or go down? I think yes if holiday-demand drops off and once all pre-orders of AGEs are fulfilled, and remaining stock and resupply can be assessed. What are other bullion dealers' premiums? for the same products? Is the premium you are quoting just for US 2009 AGE products at this time or across the world bullion coin and bar spectrum that they list?

Just from APMEX. I haven't really found other dealers yet that I want to deal with so right now my business compaints/satisfaction will be APMEX-based.

I hope they do come down, the last couple of days, they have found a way to sell almost 600 AGE's. I'm not sure how they were able to do that with $110 over spot price but they managed to.

Peter Schiff's company Europac is going to start selling PM's soon. Not the perth mint packages they are selling now, but a Europac Precious Metal division where you can buy buillion to your home like APMEX.
So I can't wait for that...

Also, does anyone know when the 2010 AGE's go into production? How soon after Jan 1st 2010 can people start to order them?

I believe the US Mint puts all coin production for the next year into gear in early/mid December of the previous year, so things should already be shifting over to 2010 production. As for product releases you have to watch the Mint's press releases throughout the year and keep checking the product schedule page, and follow dealer newsletters for bullion product releases as well as blogs like coinnews.net, mintnews blog, coinupdate.com, numismaster.com, and the old standard print pubs of the industry, to name a few.

Thanks, I'll assume as long as I come here on a daily basis I'll be pretty up to date on the release date...

I wonder what the premiums will be for these 2010 AGE's. Will we ever see $40-50 premiums again?

I hope they decide to do APE's at some point. (American Palladium Eagles)

I'm starting to warm up to Pallad's...

Yes, you will certainly get an earful at CT. :D

I was hopeful for the 2010 Palladium UHR, but it doesn't look like it will happen since things were not completed in time for production schedules as far as I understood that.

Seems like the bullion forum is a bit slow since gold has dipped...

Maybe we should go back to talking about Cheetah Woods? :D

Yeah, it's funny how that happens right? The bugs go into hiding when the price dips. Hopefully they are practicing what they preach and making some PM purchases whilst not busy cheer leading the rises.

That's a great pun on Tiger by the way, I noticed it the other day. :eek:hya:

I agree. I'm in this for the long run, that's why I'm still here. This was definitely not a short term approach for me. I'm just disappointed that gold has dipped this much with all the printing that we're doing.

But I'm confident it will go up even higher....$1500 like some have predicting.

My friend told me the Cheetah joke but since you guys don't know him I'll take credit for it. :D

By the way, APMEX has a 12-days of Xmas contest. They are giving out 1 ounce silver rounds.

I won yesterday. I think it's the first time I've ever won any contest. So for anyone that's not sure about contests and if anyone ever wins them, you're looking at one!

    Thank you APMEX.

Congrats! I love their contests. The summer Gold giveaway was a BIG hit here this year.
