The real reason comes down to looks. ASE look way better than bars. It is easier to unload coins than bars as well. yes silver is silver but people also like style. a 1 oz silver bar doesn't look as attractive to other people as does an ASE.
I dont care about the IMF bank! I only care about the bank of Yankee!/// And Krispy it sounds like she is still after your buffalo!
Yankee why are you selling all of your gold for the 'failing US dollar' ? :headbang: Are you reinvesting in AGBs? And she won't get my Buffalos... She's off to far off lands you know and leaving her herd and hordes behind.
Where's the link to the official US Mint site? I click on the link above and it goes to a blog which has no link to any official press release or other announcement by the US Mint or other credible news source. Anyone can create a blog and say anything they want, but until I see it on the mint.gov site, I call shenanigans.
You're new here, welcome. Also, the US Mint, for certain things, has a policy of communicating to the numismatic community via certain channels such as the bigger numismatic publications, which then gets filtered down via blogs, forums, etc. Other things, specifically related to their direct-to-public offereings, it communicates via their catalog.usmint.gov site. Also, for the record, the Mint News Blog is generally considered credible within the community.
I used to think the same way but then I heard a couple questions that forever changed my ideas on bullion vs. bars. Who made it? can it be faked? It's the same for gold or platinum or palladium. Why buy bullion instead of bars? sSecurity of your asset converted into said pm. You know exactly what you have and also everyone else does too that knows much about pm's. heck it says it right on the coin
That's a great point! I haven't even thought of that. I buy from APMEX so I bought some APMEX 10oz silver bars and I suppose I could sell it back to them without them questioning it, but elsewhere they may be a bit suspicious. So I suppose there's some value in getting something that's recognizable right off the bat... I'm going to have to re-adjust the way I look at getting silver now...
