I believe that this is one of the coolest coins, I will ever own in my lifetime! When I first saw this coin, back when my dad gave it to me, in June of 08’, I knew I was in love. My father received this coin, from his father in 1991, and I recently pulled the coin outta my vault (drawer) to share with all of y’all. This is a 1991 P-40 Flying Tiger $5 Commemorative Coin, issued by the Republic of Marshall Islands. All comments are accepted, good or bad! Enjoy! P.S. An interesting piece T$...I like the designs on the plane, and the reverse is intriguing! Keep em' comin'...and I should note, you are getting further into the darkside...you're going to be mad when you find out we lied about the cookies stainless
Yes the plane is an interesting one. You can see teeth, almost like it is opening its mouth, kinda cool. Never really noticed that, you really have to look at all of the coin, some things just POP out atchya'! And no, I am NEVER coming to the dark side.
Nice obverse It looks like a P-38 but I guess it is a P-40. The aircraft looks like something Green18 can identify.
I doubt it. P-38: http://www.world-war-2-planes.com/images/p38_infl_650_main.jpg P-40: http://www.world-war-2-planes.com/p-40-warhawk.html
T$ out of all your coins so far this is the coolest one for me. I am putting this coin on my short list, but hey Christmas is around the corner you could just mail me this one LOL. It really is a sweet coin. I know you will trasure this one forever as well :thumb:
Glad you like but, I'm not gonna send you it... GET YOUR OWN! And yes, just like the others, I will always treasure it! It is such a sweet coin!
She's definately a P-40 Collect. A well armored and armed aircraft (though not as nimble as the Japanese Zero) her pilots relied on diving tactics to wreak havok on the Japanese nemisis. I do believe the Tuskeegee Airmen flew this craft in Noth Africa.....
Check out one of my favorite mint medals..... http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/medals/?action=medal&ID=23
Not to be confused with the P-51 Mustang and the F-82 Twin Mustang. Have you ever visited the Air Force Museum at Wright Paterson AFB? It is a must see for an aircraft enthusiast like yourself.
Green: You said "Noth Africa" previously and I gave you "Chris Noth" (Det. Mike Logan, Mr. Big, etc.)
