Just got off the phone with my good friend, Mike tonight and man, did he touch on some profound paradigm shifting points to me.

I never fully appreciated the value of silver in a lot of coins that I used to pass off as "worthless" or "high mintage"..

I didn't know you could get more money for a 1964 Kennedy half if you sell it as bullion..

Now, when I go to flea markets, I know to look for those certain date Kennedys, or Washington quarters, etc. to see if anyone is selling them in their stash..

Anyone have luck finding these 90% or even 40% silver content coins in their spare change?

There are guys here that go to the bank and buy bulk rolls, go home, search them and cull the silver, then return the clad halves at face and repeat the process.

It's a common search. A lot of people do it.

He mentioned that.. But can't that be a real pain in the butt to do all day?

depends on how much access you have to half dollars. There are only so many to search at the bank, but at 50¢ face, and $5 silver value, wouldn't you like to get back 1000% on your investment?

Absolutely, if I can get the time to..

But nonetheless, great idea.. It works for so many too. That's the beauty behind it.

Its worth your time....... if you're really good at it.

Here is a session of about 3 hours of coin searching.

muhahahaha! Yeah, its all from one bank. That day was from 4,500$ of coins. so it actually was only a few hours of searching.

My best day has been 467 40%s

    Wow.. just wow...

I'm speechless. I wish I had that money to do that.. but good going! maybe some day I will do that.

Did the bank get mad at you for bringing it all back? Some banks MUST catch on I can imagine.

Ohhhhh hellll to the no you dont bring it back! Do you think they would ever order me more!? you have pick up banks where you bring the teller ladies cakes and cookies and drop banks where you stop by once every 4 months and they ***** you out and then you have to talk to the manager and then they take the coins anyways :p

It takes a bit of money to do, gotta have 5-10k to do it really well. plus a dolly and car with good suspension to transport it all. over all its worth it though. Lots of fun and lots of profit if you get lucky.

For those of you who do search and need some encouragement, check out the attached coin. Found this in a box that aside from this coin was 100% skunk!

100% skunk means that the rest of the box was clad halves. (0% profit)

and yes... you DO post a lot!! 1400 posts in less than 4 months is a lot

BNB: I'm baffled that you didn't already know about this aspect of coins or managed to miss the roll searching topic on CT thus far, but now that you are turned on it, check out what the Roll-Searchers regularly report finding in their thread. You don't have to have a lot invested to search rolls but it helps if you buy entire boxes of coins. Some searchers specialize looking for silver and go for halves while dimes and quarters are heavily searched and don't turn up much silver, typically. Others go through nickels and cents for errors, keys, etc. Give it a try, it's a another fun discipline and great thing if you are stuck inside the around the house, inside on a rainy day, whatever... goodluck.
