These are cool in any condition. Here's mine. Not trying to show yours up- I guarantee I had to pay a lot more than you did! I used to have a couple of holed ones on my old "Holey Coin Vest". Like I said, they're cool in any condition. Fun pickup! There are a lot of interesting varieties, too.
Feuchtwanger's composition (the alloy) stood the test of time very well, almost always retaining a nice silvery color, even though there's no actual silver in it. And he was two decades ahead of the Mint in proposing a small cent.
LordM.... Did these circulate exclusively in the New York area or did they get circulated in a wider area? Everything I have read about them seems to keep their usefulness in the New York area. Do you know?
Hmmmmm I paid $35+ shipping.. $39 total.... why do i get the feeling you were one of the other 2 to make an offer on it lol
I don't know, offhand. The Wikipedia article about them doesn't go into much detail on that. I'm sure it was mostly New York, but given the shortage of small change in the nation at the time, I would not be at all surprised if they circulated much farther afield than that. That is one US coin type I have not heard of a metal detectorist finding, though I am sure somebody somewhere has, a time or two. @paddyman98 is in the right place for that to happen. Let's cross our fingers for him!
No doubt.. I made an offer last night... when i checked back it said there were 3 offers.. I said screw it and clicked buy it now lol...
Yeah I just checked out ebay and these are all way out of my price range. Perhaps it will continue to be an admire from afar piece
yeah kinda what happened with this one I think.. someone posted a couple on one of the other forums i go to.. I liked it a lot so went looking for one... Don't think i was the only one as in 12 hours 2 other people made offers on this coin besides me... I'm kinda glad I said screw it and clicked the buy it now button lol
the one centers are neat and I love the design. finding an AU with good feather details is a challenge. Ihave a well worn one that serves for the time being.
Yeah, but those three-cent ones are scarcer than hen's teeth. I dunno if I'd have gone $580 for that one, but still...
