    I don't think so.

    Do you? If so, why?

I mean, over $2500+ for that coin. Does it really deserve that much of a premium even if only 10k were ever made?

And you want to give advice to people to get the right start...:loud: :goofer:

I am sorry to say this but I think you are just running the lips.. or as we called it in the U.S.M.C. "Jawjacking"

And yes I owned that Set and basically every AGE minted!!
And yes I made $$$ when I sold it. (and all the gold)

In all my years here, I do not recall ever saying something like this to anyone here!

I have no idea what the first part of your reply is insinuating but I don't think it was necessary..

This thread is just a question.

Do you think it's worth buying now is the question?

I am not insinuating anything... I just finished reading your other thread about retiring from buying expensive coins...
What if I were a client and I wanted one of the 2006 Reverse Proof Eagle Sets and said to you go get me one.. your commission will be $1000, would you then give the "I don't think so answer"?

Come on guy..you are in no way ready to advise anyone on anything Numismatic....I have been in this for well over 25 years and learn something new everyday....and still seek professional advice!

For all of you who know me, please accept my apology for these post's...I just could not help myself!!

    Best regards,

What on god's green earth are you talking about??

Why do some of you on this forum just loveee to insult me?

Seriously. Cut the you know what already. My tolerance level with some of you is becoming very low.

I asked a question, I don't need you putting a spin on my words.

    Thanks!

PS: I'm surprised you've gained to much respect here when you assume I am acting as an expert numismatist when in reality I am just a guy with 3 months experience sharing his experience.

Please do not take my post's as a personal attack, it is not...
It seems that you see-saw in many directions...

As mentioned, I do not know you, your post's elicit these responses not only from me but others that read your words...perhaps it is the way in which your present them??

    No offense to you...

    Regards,

I simply don't get some of you.

You insult, then when I call you on it, you duck and cover and go without blemish.

There are a handful of people on this forum I actually like and they also happen to be very easy/likeable people.

    You know why?

Because they don't illicit integrity / character questioning remarks on people. They say everything with respect. They never have to use the guise "No offense" or "This isn't a personal attack".

I've been in the game of life for a long time and I know when someone is subtly insulting me.

Just don't do it and we'll be fine.

I can collect a ton of your posts and others that have eluded to what I'm speaking of and make a thread about it, but I choose not to. However, anyone with thin skin would run from this forum in a heart beat because of it.

I'm lost too. I think BNB was just wondering why there is such a high premium on the coin? Fair question. Personally I do think it is worth it, since it is rather unique in character in comparison to pretty much every other US coin out there. Of course, if a reverse proof gold is what you are after, you can look at the australian lunar series and pay a much smaller premium and have the option of smaller dimensions.:D

Please feel free to call me on whatever you want...I am just saying after reading your other thread and then reading this one..you send confusing signals.

Premiums for anything that has collectibility is based on Economics 101

    Supply and Demand

The supply was 10,000 the demand may or may not exceed that for any give point in time. It is just that simple. You need a buyer and a seller to satisfy both entities.

I think it's a great looking coin but I am still internally hopeful that the mint will do another reverse gold proof someday.

I just can't see myself forking over $2700+ for one of these coins.

I think the value for this coin is justified...for the same reason the reverse ASE proof is so expensive. Not that many were made and people really like them. They sold out quickly when they came out and have maintained the high because they are unique pieces. The market creates the price these coins sell for because of the demand. It's that simple. They may not be worth the premium to you...but they clearly are to a lot of people.

    Is is worth it?

Its worth every penny! There are very few modern coins >1955 with a mintage of less than 10,000 that have such a high demand. The AGE series is a very popular and collectible series. Die hard collectors know that in order to have the complete series, you must have this coin. With only 10,000 on the market and you have to figure how many people have multiples or big dealers that are sitting on these, that there are way less than 10,000 that own this coin in the world.

BNB, its the same comments I made to you when you were debating your ASE 95W proof. Very expensive coin, low mintage, high demand>>>> you should be proud that there are less than 30k people in the world who own this coin and you are one of them. I know you debated on the price.....as many people would because that is a lot of money to drop on a silver dollar, but once you got it in hand, you were so glad that you bought it. Trust me....it would be the same for this coin>>>>even better feeling. As long as there are AGE collectors out there, there will always be a demand for this coin.

To this day, I am kicking myself for not being fast enough to get this coin. Coulda, woulda, shoulda.....Im still shaking my head.

I agree for the most part, low mintage and highly demanded = high price. I think it's a cool coin, and would love to have one of them someday. Would also like to have a 1995-W Silver Eagle too.

And as I've pointed out to you previously, you paid $2500+ for a 1 ounce piece of silver with a mintage of 30,000+!!! Seems like you shouldn't be having too much of an issue thinking a 1 ounce piece of GOLD with 1/3 the mintage should be valued near the same price ;)

Finally, even if the mint makes more reverse proofs in the 25th, 30th, etc. anniversary sets, I don't think that would affect the value of this coin much if any.

Neither do I...as this will always be the first reverse proof issue they made (along with the ASE).

I was fortunate to get both. One day I like the silver reverse proof the best , the next day it is the gold. Both are very nice. The first regular proof I bought was out of the 3 piece gold set. I like gold but something about a large proof gold that is awesome to me.

I would think someday they will make another gold reverse proof. Like some, I do not think additional reverse proofs will affect the price in a negative way. May make the first one even more popular as many may want to collect the series.

Correct me if I am wrong but aren't there several * modern gold eagles which trade in the $2,500 range?

It would definatley affect the 2006 reverse proof and in a big way. It would create a subset of reverse proofs and make the 2006 even more of a chase coin. How easy do you think it will be to find in another 15 - 20 years? Buy now while they are still on the market.

It's my favorite modern gold coin and will always be a recommended buy.
